  • Heading out to NYC - Any suggestions

So I'm heading out to NYC next week for the job and I'll sure be bringing back a few smokes back as there isn't as much choice in Montreal and prices are much better there.

Last time I was there I brought back some Bolivar Robusto, found them to my liking. I picked them on a quick visit to JR in midtown. There is also a smaller shop on 6th avenue near 57th that I quickly visited.

What are the other places to see in Manhattan? I will also be on the lookout for a humidor. Where can I find a good deal?

    Thanks in advance!

check out the Davidoff and Nat Sherman shops, very nice but a little pricey. I usually go to JR for the best price and De La Concha for the best service. JR sometimes has crazy deals on cigar/humidor combos if you are lucky to be there during those specials. If you want to smoke something unique, last time I was there only JR carried this brand, Montecristo Afrique, one of my favorites. Try the Jambo Jambo.
    Amusez-vous bien et bon travail

JR in midtown. If they don't have what U want at a decent price no 1 will. JRs GENUINE PRE-EMBARGO COUNTERFEIT CUBANS CIGARS
      Handmade NIC
Wrapper: ECSU Binder: ECSU Filler: HON/NIC
Medium-Full Bodied . There are some small places that hand roll but I'm not sure. Check the net for cigar factories in Manhattan or cigar shops in midtown. Good luck and say hello to Lady Liberty !

Thanks! I'll make sure to grab some of those Montecristo and Genuine counterfeit.

If JR is the best place I won't make leaps to find others then.

JR has some real good deals on 5ers if you go in knowing what you are looking for. Might be $1-$2 more per their online pricing but well worth it. Don't know what your tastes are but here are a few can't go wrong buys:

              Full

              Bolivar Cofradia Oscuro No. 554
Onyx Reserve Mini Belicoso or No. 2 Belicoso
              Partagas Black

              Medium

El Ray Del Mundo Oscuro (tissue wraped) Just get them, well worth it!!
Romeo y Julieta 1875 Bully (robusto) or Lancero
Hoyo de Monterrey Excalibur Dark Knight
              H. Upmann Vintage Cameroon

I've heard that the "JR Alternatives" blends are pretty top notch but can't say from experience. But for $25-$40 a mazo might be worth the chance.

              Have a good trip!

If you are looking for a good meal in Soho check out Shorty's .32 on Prince Street. Top notch food without the uppity BS.

Check out JR Cigars for great deals and prices, Nat Shermans is probably worth a visit, but has relocated across the street since I was there last and apparently their instore smoking lounge is for members only, so may be a waste of time.

I'm heading back there on the 19th Dec this year for the Mrs 30th, and plan on a all out Tatuaje / Padron reconnaissance mission, sort of a snatch and grab (well after paying of course ). I plan on hitting Barclay Rex, Davidoff, De la Councha and the Cigar Inn if I have time, with Club Macanudo at a stretch.

Let us know what you pick up and post pictures.

                        little shop I thougt

                        you would fine intresting
These medium bodied smokes have been made and sold exclusively by Martinez New York since 1974. We have seven sizes of these cigars available, with just one wrapper shade: a nice medium brown Ecuador Sumatra. I?ve been to this fellows little shop on __

West 29th Street in New York and he?s got some other sizes he makes (one even has a 105 ring gauge) and he?s also got some cigars with other wrappers, but nothing in any quantity that we could offer here. As far as value goes, these cigars are actually more reasonably priced than most of the ?boutique? cigars on the market today. Give them a try, but hurry- these cigars are only available for a limited time

Thanks for all of your input. I was only able to go to JR on Wednesday and had to make my way through hundreds of people gathered on 5th avenue to see the tree lightning at the GE building.

After walking around the store five times I picked up a box of 40 Genuine Counterfeit Cubans "Edicion Limitada 1958" Double Maduro wrapped Gordito.

I can tell you these stand up to the Cubans I have at home very well. A tad stronger yet smooth and flavorful. Also they did not left a strong taste in my mouth afterward.

Monday I picked a Rocky Patel "The Edge Missile" and the next day a smaller Montecristo white label at "Smoke Scene" on 7th ave because I didn't have time to go to JR. Both times I was put off, they tasted aweful! They also tasted pretty much the same which leads me to think it had to do with how they keep them. The front door to the store was wide open both times so there has to be a lot of contaminants that come in and taint the cigars there. Most probably a place to avoid.

By the way the guy there told me he had Cubans in the back store... Guess I missed my chance to pick one of those glass-top boxes of Esplendidos...

Next time I'll try to get to JR earlier in the week to sample a few more before I make my decision.
