Did a quick search and didn't notice any other reviews yet. Mods can feel free to merge this into another thread if one has already been started. Figure it could be a useful newguy contribution if there aren't any others.

This is cut and pasted from another board I post on. I swear like a sailor, and being new, don't know how that flies around here. Again, the mods can feel free to edit the swearwords if that's looked down upon here.

This is a review that I gave 9-24 elsewhere. Got the five-pack from Mitch:

5 Pack arrived yesterday. Well, I arrived yesterday and it was there at home waiting for me. As you guys know, I've been quite curious about these cigars, and so I figured since I don't have any big vacations coming up til Christmas, what the fuck, get a small sample and see what the hubub's about.

Usually am good about giving things a rest, don't waste them off the truck, blahblahblah, but I am working out of the home office today writing proposals and a presentation and wifey's on the road, so again I thought, what the fuck?

So I'm halfway through it now. Interesting cigar. All of the preliminary shit is as you'd expect. Beautifully rolled. Awesome leaf. Brown paper bag colored. Firm to the touch and draw. Almost too firm draw-wise, but I put that off to the travel-prepped humidity that it was shipped under. Looked like a darker Sig VI. Double band: Standard that you see with the Siglo VI plus the black Reserva band. Interesting tidbit which may be nothing: When I peeled off the Reserva band, there was a little number on the end where the band is white. You couldn't see it with the band on because the end of the black area overlaps it, but I assume it is the number of the box this came from. Number 52, FWIW.

Bottom line is, I get it. Very very smooth. Maybe the smoothest cigar I've ever smoked. Almost too smooth, actually. For the first bit, there was nothing to it. I was worried that I wasted a whole bunch of dough by pulling the trigger too quickly. It was the same experience some of you may have had smoking one of the Monte Book cigars. Very light feeling with NOTHING on the edges. Thus the effects of 5 year old leaf. Check.

The second third picked up nicely though. The Cohibaness started rearing its pretty head. Full bore now a little past the middle. Linea Clasica rather than Siglo tasting. Just had some slight tunneling which straightened itself out with a light of the other side, but before this, straight as you please. Again, I put this off to User Error in not letting it balance itself out for a month in the humidor. Not the cigar's fault.

Getting down to the last third and still very well-behaved. Not hot or tarry in the least. Very Cohiba right now. Very good Cohiba. Don't expect that will change, but I'll let you know if it does.

The question is where does it go from here from an aging perspective? The leaf if already aged, so the benefits will come from the blending over time. Just wonder what that means for this.

Very nice cigar. Excellent actually. Is it the best cigar I've ever smoked? No. My Davi 2, '96 Esplendido and Trini Book are my Holy Trinity of cigar experiences, but there were outside factors that added to those (events, people, accompanying drink, etc.). This is a great cigar though. Reminds me of the early days when I was newer to this.

Is it worth the money? I dunno. Certainly not in absolute terms. Relative to what we're getting now? It's a pretty great cigar that you have to be in Book-ville to find comparable, and to me only the Trini is it's match, but I have a well-known Trini bias.

But I haven't smoked any of the Cohiba Books yet. Maybe I'll crack one my boxes for the Super Bowl and do a side-by-side.

Will I buy more? Yeah. Definitely. Like I said, what the fuck? It's not like you can dial this up anywhere. But that's just me. I'm not sure you guys would feel the same.

Nice read Femi and from memory we have only had one member who's had the experience of schmoking one off. He'll probably pop along at some point and chip in. Swearing's not censored (unless defamatory, and then it reads ugly ay?), we're all grown up, just don't post any pictures of your bollocks up

      Nice review.

Real nice review, doubt if I will ever get to try one, but at least I now know what to expect.

        Hunh?

        Bollocks!

This is another damn postie that I posted too quickly and am trying to delete but can't find the bloody "Delete" option anywhere.

So, welcome aboard, Femi, and sorry for the interruption.

Sounds pretty nice but a bit out of my price range I'm afraid. Thanks for the review though!

Pop into Femi's Newbie Greet and all will be explained.
Yeh, Dave. That's exactly what happened. Read Femi's newbie greet, then came back here to try to delete the postie which you so graciously quoted so I could be properly embarrassed (TYVM) and could only edit it down to something innocuous since I still can't find the bloody "Delete" button.

Not the Gran reserva, but I recently bought 3 of the Sublime Extras....

They were a better price (for a bigger cigar too! )

Won't be smoking these for a while, gonna let them age for several years yet; should be fairly amazing I would say in about 10 years!
