  • Cigar venue fire!

I'm a regular visitor to the cigar terrace at 10 Manchester Street. It's only been open for a couple of months but I have had some great times there (and correspondingly big bar bills!).

It's about a third of the size of the Boisdale terrace, the staff are friendly and it has all you might expect in terms of drinks and snacks. The chairs are comfortable and the heaters are strong enough to make a chilly night feel warm. On one visit we faced a challenge of sitting together as a group of five as the tables are set out to seat 4 or 2 and due to a lack of space can't really be re-arranged.

Overall, another good venue for London BOTL. The biggest attraction, for me, is that it's a ten minute walk from my home!!

Last night I had arranged to meet a couple of friends there. I was looking forward to a another good evening so imagine my surprise when I entered and instead of the friendly female receptionist, a big burly security guard greeted me. "Sorry, mate- we're closed, there's been a fire!". It seems it started in the kitchen, which is in the basement. I didn't see any fire damage in the reception and I assume the terrace survived intact as well. However, the hotel (and the cigar terrace) are closed until further notice.

I had to find an alternate venue (we re-located to Docklands) and my friends thought it was funny that a cigar venue had burned down.

It's a shame for the owner who is a passionate cigar smoker. There were many challenges with the builders to get the venue open initially. They then claimed a 100% occupancy and now this! On top of that he's a Dubai national and will probably be affected by the financial collapse.

There is a H&F tasting scheduled there for just over a weeks time; I wonder whether that will go ahead...
