Where do you think we're going with this?

I don't think we'll have war. I don't think we'll have civil war. I have thought about those things seriously.

We're going to be grounded because there will be no loans for housing, cars etc which are vital for most people. House prices are tumbling in the UK, and the cost of fuel is ludicrous in this country.

I've still got 10 to 15 years to work before retirement, but I'm told that the value of pensions is about to plummet.

    Is this paranoia?

It's a cheap ending to a first post on this subject, but thank God for an escape smoke to leave these issues behind!

Ive thought about this a lot recently too bry,im in the car trade and i sell a hell of a lot of cars through the auto trader here in the S west,i had one of there reps call me today and to tell me that as of from next week there will not be any photographers calling to any homes or trade premmises as they havent the money to send them out.So what they are doing is if you want to sell a car,private/or trade you have to do it( on line)or through a cam phone and they have even put the prices up too.Well gobsmacked i thought one of the biggest motor trade mags are feelin the pinch too, doesnt say a lot for the economy really.Looks like were in for a rough ride.i see the goverment has jumped in to save our banks from closing as they have done in america as they had the same problem, what the hell is happening to this planet????,it worries me as a lot of people put all there trust into banking abd the economy and its all going tits up,its just getting to expensive to live and keep going.I fear something has got to change somehow.

IMHO, I think the Bank Of Ebgland should've cut interest rates by at least 5% to help make things more feesable for everyone and also the Gov't should be cutting fuel, tobbaco and acolohol duty in half untill the markets and the overall economy improves.

The whole ?500 Bn mail-out by the Gov't is nothing more than the everyday taxpayer getting ripped off even more by the gov't, because the Gov't is expecting the taxpayer pay the bill that was brought about by greedy bankers in the first place.

Maybe with a bit of luck, the price of fuel will continue to drop and help make the cost of living a little more affordable, but it'll take alot more than that to sort this recession mess out, we can only wait and hope for the best

I'll say one thing though, the financial crisis isn't going to put me off from enjoying a good stogie

We have fewer function bookings for the band in December compared to last year, and it's the same situation when I compare notes with mates in other bands. Indeed, one major pharmacy multinational with a site close to home - the largest employer in East Kent - has put out an official ban on all Christmas functions within the firm. And they usually live it up more than anyone else round here. People who work there have feared for their jobs for years, and the place keeps making people redundant.

I just saw that Kent - my county - has ?50 million in investments in the Icelandic banks that have frozen accounts.

We've been in a recession that has gotten so bad that the American government just passed a $700 billion bill to bail out the remaining corporations that haven't tanked financially. I guess we're all feeling the shaft boys. At least we've built up a nice stash of cigars in our humidors to last us a little while, right?

good grief, I'm only getting started with buying premium cigars again and don't even have a humidor yet, and so it'll be a while before I build up any kind of stogie stash lol

I'm an engineer for the rail industry, and to tell you the truth, we have never been so busy...which is lucky for me and my cigar buying habit...

I'm permanently broke anyway...comes of having children I suppose...but anything that affects mortgages or petrol prices is bound to have a serious effect on me. I drive 500 miles a week to work and back, and the price of petrol is killing me at present...

The world of finance strikes me as such an artificial place, that I'm not surprised it crashes repeatedly...people's expectations are unreal, and the world runs on credit. It can't last...
