  • Bolivar Belicosos Finos

I wanted to gauge peoples thoughts on this cigar. I know there was a recent thread by Pedro about the Bolivar Petit Pyramid EL09 which I assume he means the Petit Belicosos. I have tried the PB a couple of times now but dud not care for them, perhaps as they are so young.

Jimmeh recently told me about a nice old box of Bolivar BF being smoked in one of my London haunts and last week I tried one. Holy COW I loved it. I am not a Bolivar fan in general but these particular sticks (from 2001 if memory serves) are heaven. BF are cheap online but are very recent production. Anybody here have smoking experience of recently made BF? I am fast becoming a convert to these but want to know if they really need additional years on them to make them worth while.

    Cheers all,

    T.

I know that 01 and 02 were some of the best years ever for the Bolivar Belicoso Fino. Then they were kind of hit and miss in 03 and between 04 to mid 08 they were kind of hit and miss. Late 08's and early 09's have been better. But not quite like the 01 and 02 were.

PS: If you are looking to get some BBF's. Get them with dark wrappers on them. I've smoked some 06's and 07's that had pale tan wrappers and they were not up to my standards of what a Belicoso Fino should taste like.

MOST interesting, many thanks. Hard to choose wrappers online though.

Depending who you order through j think you can ask them to open and inspect and ask for darker wrappers.

              LOVE the unbanded cab 2001's.......

Still quite a few around I think.

Also like the newer banded ones very much (more than the LE petit), but the gorgeous dark wrappered ones are definitely better in my opinion.

You shouldn't have too many problems getting them if you ask, I reckon.

Exactly the same thing: LINK ....no difference at all. Petit piramide is the factory name and Petit Belicosos is the 'brand' name

My recent box has pretty muted flavors so far.

Oh poo, nothing is ever simple. I will have to ruminate on this further.

I assumed that the "Petit Pyramid" was the "Petit Belicosos", but you know what assumption is, the mother of all....etc.....

Hello T, I had a box of BBF from 2007 last year, so it was about 1 year old. Well when I bought it from COH then, which is our official sponsor, it was about 8 months old, and it started really badly. Well then I smoked about 2 or 3 sticks per month and when it got exactly 1 year, there was a great change in flavour and yes! it was good!

so IMHO, 1 year is good enough for these little bolivar missiles

OOO, that is interesting and maybe very helpful!

Anybody have a one year old stick to pass verdict on?

                            Aroma.

I have two boxes, both with the darker wrappers from mid 2008.Not only do they smoke very well indeed , but the pre lit aroma is like holding a bar of spicy chocolate under your nose.

One of the best Bolis IMO.
