Yesterday, I met up with a new friend and together we went to JJ Fox's to buy ourselves cigars and what a place! It's very old world and has a wonderful walk in humidor. The first thing that strikes you when you enter is the smell of fresh havana leaf. Anyway I bought a Cohiba Siglo VI (great smoke!) and my friend a Montecristo No 1. As it was a lovely day (in London anyway) we smoked them over a beer and politics outside the nearby Blue Posts pub. It was a heavenly afternoon made all the more great because I was enjoying it with likeminded company. We annoyed all the cigarette smokers though - they couldn't move far enough away when we sparked up!

Ulsteredz - Can you still smoke a cigar in the leather chairs in JJ Fox?
I used to like going there for that very reason.
When you walked in, someone on the staff would be smoking a magnificent one, and that was the best advertisement the place could have got! It was wonderful to walk into that aroma.

    I envy your day!

Yes, you still can. Marc, my fellow cigar buddy tells me that apparantly (I didn't know this) an exemption was written into the law that provides for specialist tobacconists to allow cigar customers to 'sample' their wares - a loophole which a number of London's leading cigar stores (including La Casa Del Habano in Soho) have gleefully embraced. It was something we considered but the day was just too good to waste indoors. I'll let you know when we're meeting up again if you like. You're quite welcome to join us.

A small one maybe. You're quite welcome to come along to the next meet up too. That said, there's always La Casa Del Habano or Boisdales of Belgravia; they both have more capacity; the latter having a heated roof terrace. If you both could make it next time it will be my first herf (Does need to be more than two to constitute a herf?).

I'm up in London in October when my school is on holiday. I need to be debauched from time to time away from the cap and gown and the marking, so maybe a number of us could try to meet up?... Have proposed it to a couple of the men on here already.

I can only be debauched in small law-abiding portions, though. I believe my last train to Deal leaves at 10.00pm.

Just pausing in JJ Fox - the whole culture of the gentleman's repose, and reflection brought about by it - is one of the most civilsed things a cigar man can do. I've stopped by four or five times on my own and been in fume heaven.

Quite happy to squat outside Superdrug with a good torpedo if they're closed.

Well I'm off on holiday from the last two weeks of October (a caribbean cruise), so it'll have to be November at the soonest. But yes, I'm definately up for a meet with my fellow forum members.
