I bought one off ebay which blew the electrics in my house before bursting into flames, so be carefull what you get mate

I'm in the computer consumable industry and it still cost me over 50 quid for a genuine Toshiba charger

Am I thinking of the right thing here? When my previous lab RIP chewed through the power cable of my laptop, I bought a replacement power pack with loads of different inserts for about ?60 from Comet. I thought it was a bloody rip-off but I couldn't think of a another fast way to get my laptop to work again.

I used to work in Maplins. They usually have at least one of them going on special offer between ?35 to ?45. Only thing is, you get what you say you pay for, and they're not always reliable. On the subject of voltage, i used to refuse to sell to anyone with a 18.5v rating because none of ours had that setting. Other advisors would sell a 19v one for it, and it would work, but i preferred to cover my own back. Some would suggest long term use would damage the battery. However, if you put a multimeter across most power supplies, the voltage varies plus or minus 500ma anyway to be honest.

Plus, interchangeable tips are crap, and when they break you'll struggle to replace them. If you can, get hold of an official one. They're a rip off, but they're built much better.

You want an exact match as far as voltage and current goes, so don't use a different rated one.
