  • Nestor Miranda Special Selection Lancero

Ago, the dawgmeister posted this offer.

Welp, I did some research on these fellows (as I do on virtually everything that's offered on these forii) and they sounded interesting and -- as always on something from the jdawg -- were being peddled at a very reasonable price. So, I PM-ed, paid, waited, received, and stuck them in the ol' humi to season.

Recently, I pulled one of these longfellows out to consign to the flames.

Now, first off, these are very funny-looking see-gars. Check this out:

7 x 38 with a lovely, lovely Nicaraguan Rosado wrapper.

Your immediate instinct is to dig out that drum kit you got for Christmas when you were 8 years old and bang away on it with this baby. But I resisted the impulse and instead just circumsized it with my trusty Cuban Crafters Perfect Cutter. Next step with all my smokes is to test the draw and get an initial flavo(u)r profile. Stuck the stogie in my face. Fell over. This sumbitch is so long, it seriously messes with your center of gravity. Recommend smoking in a seated position, using a gantry to hold up the nether end, or clamping in a vise.

Anyways, got resettled with a firm grip amidships and tried again. Draw was pretty good and the nuances I received from the unlit puff were very interesting. Strange. But interesting.

Now, the funny thing is that I'd eck-shoe-elly (did I pronounce that correctly?) had one of these before. Got it as a giftie from Mikey when I boughtened some of his G.A.R. 'gars, but had forgotten about it totally. I seriously thought I was trying something new and different and didn't realize my mistake until I went to put my smoking experience into my database and found the earlier entry.

But, where were we? Oh, yes!

So I fires up me welder to light this fecker, only I can't seem to locate the distant end of it looming somewheres near the horizon. I'm moving my inferno all over the place, but it never seems to approach the elusive objective. A goodly bit of trial and error (and a singed cat) later, I finally fire this lance of a Lancero and obtain an immediate veritable gusher of smoke traveling the length of seemingly the freaking Alaskan Pipeline at approximately the speed of light (in a vacuum, of course) which hits me like a bag of wet penguin feathers in a brisket of beef.

Whew! "I'm in big trouble," I'm thinking. But, no. I'm not. I'm okay. In my zeal to fire this baby, I had unconsciously over-compensated for the extreme lengthitude of this stogie by increasing the forcefulness of my puffingness almost to the extent of a NASA wind tunnel. Reducing the vacuum pressure on the unlit end to a mere puff produced more than adequate volumes of smoke without the adverse side effects. Ah! Much better.

I now settled down to puff, enjoy, and evaluate.

    The puffing part was easy.

The enjoying part was very enjoyable indeed.

The evaluation part, however, was frustratingly elusive.

I was getting a melange of flavo(u)rs, none of which I could readily identify.

Was that some kind of exotic fruit? No. A rare spice from the Islands, perhaps? No. A nutty, woody, leathery nuance from the librerry? No.

Fuck it all! What the hell am I tasting?!!

I puffed on this sumbitch for over an hour with each puff just a leetle bit different from the one before and not once -- ONCE! -- could I clearly identify what it was that it tasted like. (Nothing at all like Bulgarin, who can not only swear he's tasting pork loin, but can also identify which county the fucking pig came from and probably his name, too.)

Welp, ladeeze an' gennemem, I must tell you that this was the most enjoyable frustrating cigar I have ever smoked. Finished it off with a toothpick, btw.

My plan is to pull one out of the humi every halfth-annus (no, that's half year, not half ass) and try again to see what is developing. If the next couple are as much fun as this first (well, second, really, although I don't recall that original first being as intriguing [prolly on accounta I should have given it more than 2 days in the humi to rest, but I couldn't resist]), I'm definitely going to invest in a box and tuck it safely away somewheres amongst my myriad humidorii.

Listen up, tippytoe old barfly, I just spent the last few months downsizing from 16 to 10 humidorii to make my life simpler. Smoking more, buying less. Agonizing, but by squeezing out every usable cubic centimeter of space, I finally managed it.

Fuck all if I'm not overflowing again! And it's all because of inconsiderate nitwits LIKE YOU!

I'm so weak, and the offers all sound so tempting and delicious and despite knowing better, I offer up my credit card as a sacrifice and dwell in the land of sin yet again.

So I've ordered up a fiver of these here "Danno" thingies and will now go a-romp, a-romp to yon postal receiving device to await mine precious cargo, foregoing eat, drink, sleep, and bodily functions until ye treasure arriveth.

And did I mention how I hate this bloody forum?

Must say it looks a bit of a handful that Danno .... would save it for the Super Bowl!

Nice review Rocket Man! I smoked one of these a few weeks back going in expecting nothing and it turned out to be great. Had the robusto but would imagine the lancero would be good too.

Just to tempt your buying restraint here they are on a Quick Buy for a mere $13.50. http://www.cigarbid.com/auction/lot.cfm?lotID=823164 above the historical low price of $9 but just below the average price of $14.50!

Strike while the iron is hot my good man as I'm sure it would take a pack of wild llamas to keep you away!

                  Cigarbids offering
This tasty super-premium named after its creator and the maker of Don Lino cigars, Nestor Miranda (duh). Carefully crafted by hand in Honduras the Special Selection is available in two choice varieties: a silky Rosado wrapper or a dark Nicaraguan-grown maduro. The long-filler mixture of Nicaraguan and Costa Rican tobaccos is extensively aged, and promises an eventful medium to full-bodied bouquet of flavor. The smoke is rich and woody, with a delightful coffee component and a unique touch of sweetness on the finish! These are equally as good as the new release but not a Pepin ! Not as complex .

                  New blend
                  Rolled by Don Pepin

Nestor Miranda Special Selection Cigars: Made of finely aged Nicaraguan, Honduran and Dominican tobaccos recently re-blended & created by Jose Pepin Garcia, Master Blender, for Nestor Miranda's Special Selection cigars. This special combination is medium to full bodied and gives you a velvety smoking experience of creamy, peppery notes with rich lasting coffee undertones

                    And did I mention...?

I hate every mother's son llama-shagging, dogrocket smoking, probably faggots anyhow, funny-talking, sumbitch on this bloody wish-I'd-never-found-it freaking forum!

Mikey tempts me with a new Opus X, knowing I can't resist. Now SeanP(isshead?) points me at an offer he knows fully fucking well I couldn't refuse.

Hey! Fuckwads! It wasn't that long ago I posted about how I agonizingly managed to downsize from 16 humidorii to a mere 10. It was torture! I eck-shoe-elly (did I pronounce that correctly?) had to smoke more see-gars than I was buying! And with all those lovelies out there just waiting to be tried, and at such low, low, "one time only if you buy within the next 27 seconds" prices.

So... Do I get sympathy and support from my BOTL's?

                    SHIT NO!

I get temptation I can't resist. So much for the 12 steps...

Um, did I say something wrong?

Maybe you are helping me out by buying them so I can live vicariously through you and my buying can be curbed for yet another day. See that, you are helping me! Ah, you are such a nice guy!

Thanks for being a great BOTL!
