  • Cigars for the Troops in Afghanistan

Someone has just given me a copy of a letter published in Country Life and written by a Lt Colonel in the Royal Army Medical Corp who says how much he enjoyed the article I wrote in Country Life and how a cigar really helps him and his colleagues de-stress.

This made me think. Many of us have humidors packed with cigars and I am sure we could all spare a couple of sticks to send to the troops via this officer.

I am also going to approach the cigar stores and other sources for cigars and it would be great if everyone could contribute.

Sending smoking items to troops is a great tradition. Alfred Dunhill sent pipes to officers during the first world war.

If anyone wants to send me cigars for this great cause please PM me and I will send you my address.

OK, but there is NO WAY we can call this a bomb!

    T.
"In Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love, they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock!"

Certainly a wise call there BigT.

There's been another recent thread on this (here), so it would certainly appear that there is support for this idea. I would, naturally, be up for putting something into the 'bomb' (please someone, come up with a new term for this occassion, as BigT so rightly suggested).

Thanks T and Simon. I have had two more PM's so looks like we could get a few sticks together.

Have to say that I am a little disappointed though as 44 people have read this thread.

Please be assured these are cigars for the guys not necessarily the officers. Come on guys lets hear from you! Everyone can spare a couple of sticks.

I suggest we call this 'Cigars sans frontier'

At the moment please hold onto your cigars until I get the address to send them too. I don't have the space or the equipment to keep them in perfect condition.
So please watch this space for updates.

Yep, just ran into being busy recently and haven't had a chance to pop down to the Legion. Sounds like you don't have the address yet so I will try to get down there this afternoon/evening if I can to get whatever info I can.

It was brought up on the other thread that they are requesting no more parcels to "A Soldier" since the volume is causing a delay of family packages going to actual addresses. A name of an individual soldier would be good or we could wait till after the holidays so the family packages can make their way to recipients.
Trying is the first step toward failure.

Should have an address and direct contact by email with the office who wrote to Country Life by the end of the week. Will update everyone as soon as I have it.
