  • Does age have any bareing on price ....

OK, we all like a bargain, but when we search sites are we truely comparing like for like. Obviously there are factors which influence final price. A shop based service outfit will be marginally more expensive than an Internet only one. I ran a random price check on 5 suppliers, who are in the main applauded by Forum members. The results are interesting if in nothing else they illustrate the competitiveness of the vendors.
My question I guess is, how much of the price differences is influenced by the dates on the bottom of the boxes and the vendors additional cost accrued by the added length of storage?

I dont think most of our suppliers base their prices on age, unless they are an Aged cigar that has been cared for and stored for that purpose and then you get a cigar at it's best in all aspects.
It would seem they prefer a high turnover and if stock has been around a little too long then it goes on the specials list, thats the impression i get .
Thats why i feel many forum members generally build up stock to mature, a good investment i think . Like wines some years are better than others and you get a quality plant, and i dont think the price varies, though more of these would be specially selected and aged. Good question, lets hear from the connoiseurs. My advice is get some bargains now.

Yeah, generally speaking from most of the internet vendors, unless it is explicitly placed in an aged or vintage category, the prices are not really affected by the age of the box.

        Price V Age.

It`s just easier for the suppliers to shift stock with a little age on it.

If you are offered a box of Bolis from 2009 or a box from 2006 I think it`s a no brainer which one you will go for.

As stated, unless the retailer designates them as being aged then IMO it should not be reflected in the price.

          Yup, what the man says

There are a few out there punting '00 and '01 sticks as 'vintage' but as we know there were some anomalies around that time re Q/C so it might be that a chance is taken on some of that stock. Saying that, some vendors have sold such years at discounted prices and many folk on here have had good experiences of late.

I agree with the other BOTL on the age, the question becomes a little more difficult when choice is limited, If you only had the choice between late 09 and 01's... in a perfect world 96/97 would be nice, or if it's something you only smoke on rare occasions 04/05's would be good, often they will not give you box date's on the more competitive site's, by the way where are all the 04 and 05's, not had any for years.

The price comparison is interesting but a couple of site's have a lower price when the item is out of stock, this helps to gain confidence in the competitiveness of the site, I've been tracking a few things and they never arrive back in stock! maybe they sold one or two at that price as a loss leader then advertise that price for five years or so....
