  • Newbie says hi

    Afternoon all,

Just logged on for the 1st time, wanted to say hello.

    Need some help too!

My humidor currently is registering 70 on it, but my smokes are feeling a little too dry for my liking. Topping up knocks the hygrometer up to 80 but smokes still dry... any ideas?

Currently the humidor has some Paragas P2's, some D4's and a new box of Upmann magnum 48's which should age nicely.

      Thanks for the welcome...

I am just a bit concerned about them drying out. Not sure if my humidor pad is coming to the end of it's life... and needs replacing (had it for about 9 yrs)...

Are you using a digital hygrometer? and if so maybe its worth salt testing it to make sure its still reading acurately.

Welcome Saltz.I would be looking to recalibrate via a digital system mate, just to ensure the accuracy of your reading.

At least that will give you a starting point.

                        Hi and welcome.

You need to confirm the accuracy of your hydrometer. Do a search for the 'salt test' (not saltz ) and follow the instructions.

If the gauge is reading 70 and the cigars are dry it is probably a problem with the gauge rather than anything else. You said the humistat may be on it's last legs - how long have you had it for? Some of these things only last for a year or so...
Salts is one way to test, but I would say, get the cigars feeling good (if possible) and then see what the gauge says. If you can't get them moist, get a new humistat, if you can, but the gauge doesn't budge - get a new hygrometer...

But then again, I don't even use a hygrometer so I may not be the best one to talk!

                            Hi Saltz

My readings are up and down like a bride's nightie at present. Just like yours.

The nightie's mental outside the bedroom windows with all that white, too.
                            I do reckon there's a link.
