  • Dorset Golf herf

Thinking ahead now, but are there any members who live in or around Dorset who'd be up for a round of golf with a herf thrown in between the swearing and frustration?

It depends upon exactly how much swearing and frustration was involved... Because it's usually a lot when I'm on the golf course...

I'd been thinking about something like this last year (never got around to suggesting it though).

NB. I'm a very, very poor golfer, but enjoy every moment (apart from the ones immediately after shanking the ball...)

Oh Si (May I call you Si? Every Simon I've ever met has been Si ), I totally SUCK at Golf. There was a time over summer 2007 when I got fairly good, but at the time I was doing the Edinburgh Tattoo, so every eveing I was on the Esplenade, and every day I was on the course. But now I am truly awful. But I love it. A nice afternoon out in the fresh air with friends. I just have to make sure I go to our QM's and sign out a sense of humour before I hit the course!

You may indeed call me Si.

If the QM can't find any humour for the day, just sign out all of the stogies and whisky on base - that usually sees me through a round. Though it has yet to see any of my balls make it round (ooh err missus) - I've usually lost them all by the 16th hole...

My record was 9 balls in 18 holes the first round I played that summer of '07. My stategy this year means LOTS of time at the driving range before I step foot on a course, and lots of putting practise to boot. My long game isn't too bad, but my short game is awful; once I'm on the green, I'm doomed.

Whisky and I don't hang anymore...last time we did it ended in disciplinary action!

It's odd, my worst round of golf ever (possibly the worst round of golf ever) gave rise to one anomylous shot... the longest drive of the competition. It set me up perfectly for a birdie (easily), I then sliced it into a stream. Then shanked it into the trees... and so it went on...

Alas, it was a great day though. Easily aided by the Colorado Rockies vistas and the copious amounts of free flowing (and free) beer that was being provided by my hosts.

Before we got married, my (now) wife and I went away with my parents, my sister and her (now) husband. My strange brother was also in tow . Well, me my brother and my (now) bro in law played a round or 2 on the camps course. My wonderful little bro set a course record...most over par. We all had a laugh. Then celebrated. He won us free golf for the 2 weeks we were there. And our picture in the clubhouse Not bad, and me playing with my charity shop clubs still playing with them now!

I think a golf herf is a brilliant idea. I am surprised you guys haven't done this sooner being that the Scots created the bloody game after all.

I think it would be a nice gesture for H&F to sponsor a golf day.

Is that the 'Club Havana' where drinks are free and mentioned in the song by the well known Edgeware Greek singing duo of the '80's?
