I love the lusi's a little too much, so its about time I said why. It's also a warning to you all to SNAP UP THE 08 CABS WHILST YOU CAN. THEY'RE FUCKING BRILLIANT!

My first lusi was a 97-99' smoked last year (can't remember which). It was a revolution in cigars for me... being the most complex yet subtle smoke I've ever had.
I'm a big fan of aged cigars. I'm coming to realise I like mild to medium body but full flavour. Partagas, Hoyo & Upmann are my top 3 brands at the moment, with trinidad coming in close behind.

With Partagas I prefer the P2 to the D4. LOVE the serie de connoisseurs, for that elegance and light refinement. Hoyo has full flavour, but partagas for me has full flavour with greater subtlety and refinement. For those that haven't tried the lusitania, imagine a 7 inch partagas short with increased complexity.

I got a cab of '08s I'm meant to keep my hands off till 2016... its not going well.

I don't like ratings on anything but taste. If a cigar came recommended to me that looked like something teased out the back end of a Llama, I'd happily smoke it. Even a dodgy burn I can handle if it doesn't end up destroying the taste, so my rating is purely on taste.

    The Cigar:
The cab's been resting in the humi for a good 6-8 months now. The cigar was slightly over-humid and spongy. I often like my cigars like this though in this case it was slightly excessive and needed slight correcting in the first 3rd. Sometimes overly humid cigars surprise me with their taste being of greater complexity than when dry but i also find they can get bitter quicker?

The best bit of a DC for me... the first couple of puffs, because they're always so good and you realise theres 7 inches and 2 1/2 hours of self-pleasure ahead.
Beautifully light start. Every puff I exhale through the nose. A really floral smoke. Light but so so complex from the start. The end of the first 3rd into the 2nd is special in Lusi's. I experienced it in the first aged lusi I had and in this one too - a good 10 minutes of heigtened complexity, floral notes and a smoke that smells and tastes different from the inhale up the nose, through the taste in mouth and out through the nose again. I love the first smoke of cigars that reveal a taste you've NEVER had before in a cigar. I experienced it with one of the manchester street Partagas maravillas the other day (though that cigar was sadly disgusting after the first 3rd)

I consider this Lusitania to be light to medium at best. Some I've had have been full and slightly overpowering at the last 3rd.
Too many cigars I have get too strong and bitter by the end. This is my big hate of hoyo... I find it happens with hoyo a LOT. So many people rave about the pepper at the end of a cigar but for me if it isn't done right, the subtle tastes which make a cigar special get obliterated by the last 3rd to be replaced by bitterness. I like the end of a cigar STRONG but not bitter and this lusi's strength never overpowered the taste right down to the inch nub. It heated up of course, more exhalation through the nose with loads of pepper and partagas spice, but still the floral elegance of first 3rd. I laid it to rest with about an inch left and not a hint of bitterness.

What amazes me... these aren't even two years old and I wouldn't put it far behind the lusitania I had from 97-99. For this reason I'm gonna have to source a few more cabs even though im flat broke. I hope this quality of production carries on through the 09's and 2010's. I've had lusitanias that have been underwhelming... but every one from this 08 cab has been great so far.

Great post Joe. I'd be reaching for my credit card if I wasn't so skint .... and terrified of the two and a half hour length of those things!

Yep, I'd be grabbing a few too were it not for finances.

I've certainly heard some very good things about the 07 and 08 boxes, following a slightly iffy period.

PS. Nice review Lascaux. For me a cigar is more than flvaours - the burn is a big thing for me, it ruins my experience if its crap (even if the flavours are good, it can be really annoying). Anyway, flavours are the big thing nonetheless... great effort, I really got an impression of your experience smoking the reviewed cigar.

it does somewhat taint the experience when a cigar needs excessive correcting
but if a cigar asks me to work for it to give me the flavour, id happily oblige

                  Enjoy.

Glad to hear you are enjoying them mate. They are a fine big smoke when you have a couple of hours to just sit and enjoy one.

                    Great review Bro.

I have some 1999 and 2000's. Would you be interested in a stick for stick trade to compare them?

Certainly a convincing review. I'm finding that I like strong and medium, so having variety is the key. And, as well, I haven't had a partagas I didn't like.
