  • Who's always got time for a Churchill?

I like to have a nice cigar for one and a half hour from time to time, but unfortunately I don't always have that time.
Do you have any experience of leaving your Toro's, double Coronas and preferidos rest for several days before lighting it up again?

If yes, can you share your tips on conservation , because it brakes my heart to throw away half of a good NC and I just can't manage to find smaller size wether it's UK retailer or not.

    Thanks in advance

I rarely have time for churchills, so the majority of my stock both NC and cuban are robusto and smaller,

Pepin le bijou 1922 petit robusto is perfect for a quick one

My Cuban Cigars are mostly (well, I say mostly but I don't have that many) coronas even though I have some Partagas 4 and some nice Robaina clasicos.

But with the NC's I have to go for bigger sizes when I buy due to lack of availability of smaller ones, so I have to find a solution to keep them fresh after I lit them.

Times always going to be the enemy of big cigars, especially in the winter if you're smoking outside. But with Summer on the way it's just a matter of selecting the right cigar for the time you've available to smoke it in.

As for storing semi-smoked I don't know. I guess you could try clipping off the ash end and keeping them in an airtight storage container. But it's anyones guess what they might taste like.

You can get smaller gauge NC's in the UK, but nothing like what's available in the USA. Link above might be enough to start.
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!

I dunno what to say, pretty hard to give you any suggestions. I find relighting anything over an hour old produces a sickening taste and means you need to bin the cigar. Coupled with the amount of dried saliva on the nub, and I really don't like the idea at all.

I'd try to invest in some Cuban shorts. Partagas short is a much advertised cigar on these forums. Other than that, I'm sure someone on here who knows about NCs could suggest some shorter smokes?

Go out and buy you the cheapest big, fat, seegar you can find "en tubo." I prefer glass, but aluminiuminuiumiuminumum (however the fuck you people spell it) will do as well. Smoke the seegar, throw it away, whatever. What you are after is the tubo. It makes a terrific temporary storage facility. Knock off the excess ash on your big stick, stuff it in red end first, and cap it. There are many published advisories on how to properly relight a seegar, so I needn't get into it here.

I do this every week day. My preference is bigger, longer, fatter is better, thus my 45-minute drive to work each morning affords only time for half a decent sized (i.e., manly) stogie. Tap, stuff, cap. Nine hours later, it's pop, plop, scrape, and ignite for the 45-minute return trip home.

Must point out one caveat though: Your stored and re-lit cigar will not be as good as it was before. This is inevitable. For most decent stogies; however, the re-lit version is still acceptable. You will find, though, that some of these fellows will taste like shite afterwards. Happens. Fortunately, not very often. And, as always, YMMV.

Had a look at the website. Pretty decent and yes, they have a few interesting sticks. Thanks

                Hey Deano,

I thought about it yeah, and I already indulge in the pleasures of short cubans (Partagas Habaneros i.e even though they are a bit tight on the draw).

But I'd rather not have to chosse between BIG cigar : CC's or NC's and SMALL cigars: CC's only

Do you know what I mean?

I wish I could smoke a cigar on my way to work.

I can picture myslef in a Jaguar, puffing a 5 years old Monty No4...

Anyways, good avice, but I tried it already and I am not very happy about the taste, especially if I leave more than 18 Hours between the smokes.

Im with Deano on this, anything past an hour or even half an hour gets tossed. Might be an idea to go for robustos instead.

                      Therein lies the key.
Taste is very subjective. I wont put a partially smoked cigar in a tube to smoke later. To me it makes it taste like ass.
I will however set a cigar in the ashtray and come and smoke it the next day.

I wouldn't put a partially smoked gar in a tube either to smoke later. It will always taste like ass.

I have done what you have done, Dave, and leave a gar in the ashtray and have come back to it later, or the next day, but that is as far as I go in saving them.

yeah, that's what I thought too

but the easiest would be to have a greater choice of smaller NC's.

Jeeze, cubans are the shit for sure but look at what the cigar industry looks like in the states. I am sometimes looking at websites like famous smoke shop and I wish I was living in the states...

How fucked up is it that you end up wishing you lived in a place where cubans are banned

Over there they have soooo much more choice in terms of tastes, wrappers, fillers, etc... they turned an obstacle into the best opportunity to offer variety to the consumer.
