  • A surprise? Oh yes.

I do have a few more to come later this week, but the ones I got this morning would do for now.

The humidor is now starting to come alive after some time of bare bones activity.

Last week I did opt into purchasing the International Selection Sampler from C-Gars. I'm using the BHKs to give some element of scale here! As I wanted time to acclimatise the "handmade cigars" I chose to smoke the Henri Wintermans instead. Well, no surprise in its bitter and dry taste. Of course it is, after all, dry and obviously not fresh, though the plumes of smoke were unusually well concentrated, small and perfectly formed... Nonetheless an experience that has reminded me why I moved away from such beauties decades ago!

Hey, I'm new! Got to widen the net before I can confidently choose a favourite.

There was not a jot of judgement in that post Rolan... no offence was intended. I think you're absolutely right... you can't comment on anything you haven't tried. I was wading through loads of Non Cuban stuff just so I was in some way qualified to discuss it, and some of its not bad at all.

Hey, none taken! It was a superficially brief comment. It is of course biased to the ready-made cigars I use to try 15 years ago. But from what I have smoked there is so much depth and aroma from a well-leafed/made cigar. Kind of like the easily distinguishable differences in taste from a cup of Nescafe's instant and freshly ground Kopi Luwak. But yes, I agree with you in that I do have to widen my palette to at least objectively make a sound judgement, though not too wide of course!

Thanks. Ironically that was the one cigar I was tempted of smoking today, but decided to keep it in the box for a few more days.

Nice selection , tell me, do you have a digital hygro in there, I wouldn't want to chance behikes to an analogue.

                      Thanks.

Well spotted, and yes, I do. The analogue is purely for show.

How long did you have that lid open to take that pic rOlan? 73? is a bit high for those premium Cohiba's.

I've the same humi, and it was difficult to keep constant I know.

I am having difficulty getting to between 65-70% since I seasoned the box. I check the readings every morning and night, showing a continual measurement of 72-73%. Not sure what else to do other than remove the humidifier and re-check in an hour? As soon as I open the box the readings do start to fall. Any ideas?

Are you using the sponge+water type humidifier that came with the humi?

You might need to shake it out a bit more.
