View Full Version : The January Smoke Ring Challenge

Time for a New Year cigar competition, I reckon.

I enjoyed a Punch Petit Coronation this late afternoon in my smoke shack and found myself trying to blow smoke rings. I was a miserable failure.

I will post off a Partagas D4 to the person posting the best image of him/herself blowing a smoke ring. The image can be a still shot, or a video clip.

There have to be at least three genuine entries from three different aficionados from the forum - ie no google image random cheat rings, you buggers - for this to be deemed a competition, and like Prince Phillip, I will lurk in the background and nod to lackeys who will eventually knight the winner.

I reserve the right to post random entries out of utter boredom, but will not be awarding myself the prize Partagas. That would be silly.

The pictures can come from now, or from a past ring triumph.

The snap below is the best still I can muster of my ring and was when, despite having the air of a stoned psychopath, I was enjoying a plump and nicely brown Montecristo. I cannot remember the model but she was a great smoke.

The sideways on phone vid shows how out of practice I am. I tried a few mouthfulls this afternoon after work and didn't manage a correctly formed circle once.

I know this is not quite etiquette to kiss cherished Havana smoke into rings, but it's January and I'm already bored.

Plus I like licking stamps, so please try!

Best of luck. :biggrin1:

Guys.

The initial silence on this has made me feel like a complete wanker! :biggrin1:

I've been sitting here going red at my laptop, seeing no competition entries lol and feeling like a right twat!

I thought I might have to resign from the forum in shame!

Come on then...

Larrysput and Drew seem insane enough to have a go...

Lob in some bloody evidence, you lot!

In this clip, I'm in my car outside John Lewis, Bluewater, working on a NUB or SNUB sent to me by Monte in November/December.

I have a crack at ringing with a a couple of successful shots.

God knows what people will make of the clips I'm posting on a site on YouTube.

(Actually, I don't give a toss!).

I'd have a go at this but I seem to have lost yet another skill.
I'm glad I was trying it in my garden shed away from the neighbours prying eye's.
They'd have thought I'd finally lost it.

I'll give it another go this weekend.

Have not been on in ages and what happens, smoke ring comps:hail:

Seemed to have limped from one cold or cough to another since the New Year and have not yet had a cigar in 2009:frown:

Must try this smoke ring thing at the weekend:biggrin1::biggrin1:

Shed

I'm off cigars at present ONE MORE TIME because of this bad cold/flu thing.

At the moment, I don't fancy Havanas at all because the chest, cough, sneezes, headache, shivers and feeling freezing will get in the way of the pleasure.

This is just a bit of fun, this competition. Tongue in cheek, you understand.

I just want to feel bug-free again! This bug keeps on coming back.

But do crack on now you've popped back and know what's happening ring-wise!

Well had my first cigar of the year last night, a R&J short churchill and it was lovely.

Only thing was forgot to blow any smoke rings:der:

Someone please try to blow one off.

OK, I thought I might as well then. It's only a short video that I chopped out of a longer one as the rest was rubbish. I reckon I get 5 crappy ones in a row here. It's clearer in slow motion but I haven't found out how to do that in my video editing software, as I've been using it for about an hour...

That is FANTASTIC, Daverave! :smoke:

I wonder if there will be a last-minute challenge?...

Bravo! :cowboyic9:

What's the cigar? Is it a Montecristo?

daverave999
30-01-2009, 07:25 PM
Ta! That was half my reason for entering last minute.

It's a Sancho Panza Non Plus, in celebration of finishing the written exams for my NEBOSH General Certificate. It was one of the ones my local tobacconist recommended when he didn't have a Ramon Allones Small Club Corona or an El Rey Del Mundo Petit Corona. I'd been looking for smokes that required less time commitment in this weather. That'll teach me to look stuff up on the internet I have no idea about...

Wasn't to my taste in all honesty. A bit woody [with hints of salty mud]. Improved towards the end but I won't be buying another.

I was going to submit my feeble attempt but, you guys are too good for me.
I need to think of something that I'm good at..errrrmmm no, it's no good.
I'm no good at anything.

Hey, I feel a new competition coming on;

'Who's the Crappiest at doing Something'

I'd be in with a chance there.

Mr Linfield - The Ash Tray-athon will be something for EVERYONE to enter, mate! :biggrin1:

Alex - Excuse my terminology, but for a guy who is - I believe - new to cigars, you're a fucking expert!

Very impressive! :smoke: :smoke:

That entry is easily as good as some of the best YouTube blowers.
It seems to work if you shape your mouth to look like a cod.

Still one day to go.
Will someone blow an even more impressive ring?

Alex
30-01-2009, 11:45 PM
I used to smoke cigarettes before cigars, it was something i learned a while ago, its all about the shape of the lips ha ha, that doesn't sound too good does it.

daverave999
30-01-2009, 11:48 PM
That was pretty spectacular Alex! I'd better get practising.

Robusto
30-01-2009, 11:48 PM
Lip shape is so often vital, yes?!

I used to blow cigarette rings when I was bored senseless. At least with cigars, it tastes infinitely better! :smoke:

Enjoy, men!

I had another D4 with a pot of Assam in my very rainy shack after work.
Once more, elated. I love what the rain adds to the smoking event lol.

I have two cigarette smoker friends who say they have to have the next fag because otherwise they'd smash someone's head in.

I never get like that, but I do always enjoy the next great cigar. :cowboyic9:

I have to say Robo Im jealous of your shack, I have been banned from smoking cigars in the house which means I have to take the dog out every time I fancy one, no shack in my garden and its too cold to sit on the bench!

Robusto
13-02-2009, 04:22 PM
Pant

It's a bloody blessing, this shack. I've brewed up a pot of tea to take down in a minute and really chill out with a stick.

I've taken to blowing around in the house before I disappear down the garden. I feel like my dog marking territory. Just to remind who is the boss and how this beautiful smell is a natural one in our home.

My dog has slowed down to an absolute crawl so I can't go far with him. It would be like a bloke appeared outside your living room window and chomped a cigar on the spot for several minutes!

Still looking for an old sofa to totally man-den it!

yeah same with my hound, shes a bit old now 15mins and she wants to go home, not ideal for a smoke, think I need to get myself a shack!
