Just reading an article on the BBC News website. Interesting reading but I think it rather mealy-mouthed, avoiding saying the real reason or strength of feelings, etc.

BBC, News, BBC News, news online, world, uk, international, foreign, british, online, service

Do we have any A.B.E. supporters here, that are willing to admit it anyway?

"In Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love, they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock!"

I personally have no problem with ABE supporters. I know some people do though.

Personally, I see no duty (or often desire) to support Scotland or Wales etc. So it would be rather hypercritical of me to disapprove when someone from Scotland or Wales feels the same.

It's a sport/rivalry thing for me. Not a personal one. Despite a decidedly dodgy experience at Murrayfield once, I've never actually struck up a conversation with a Scotsman who I haven't liked. Maybe I've just been lucky...

Well, I like to see Scotland lose, being arch-enemies and what not. And the Welsh - they're so smug when they win, so it's nice to rub it in... (And I say that as a Griffiths).

But then I'm a rugby person and couldn't give much of a toss about the footie, as such I have never got my head around hooliganism and the strength of anti-German feeling in the football realm...

And Jimmeh is an "Anyone But London" fan boy!

I take shots at England (and others) no more than what I have witnessed against the Scots. I use it as a wind up mostly and really don't care if England win or lose.

However I do detest the English (London based) biased "UK" media and ill thought marketing campaigns by global companies who try to shove everything England down our throats. Is it ignorance, stupidity or that they just don't give a fuck?

1966 does not hold any significance to me.

I recall walking into a Currys, in Glasgow, many years back and being offered a free England shirt as an incentive to buy. I left without making a purchase.

So let it be known, K.dot does not hate everything english...I enjoy cornish pasties and some of you guys are pretty swell too.

Excellent point. I cringe whenever I watch one of those sanctimonious pieces where some reporter pops up to Glasgow or Aberdeen (or wherever) and asks a local if they will be supporting England (why the hell should they?) - and then disapproves at their answer, often giving some kind of speech as to why this is such a horrific attitude...

I sometimes feel that some people (whether they are in media or marketing) don't actually think these things through...

Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote.

I dont really watch football. Coming from Wigan , we are all Rugby league supporters, in the blood really, plus i played as prop so i think i will always watch it. My son is football mad, even though he plays prop for his school RL team.

I will watch the world cup games though, i do enjoy watching the National squad.

I agree with Simon I wouldnt feel inclined to support Wales or Scotland so don't expect them to support England, however find the whole Anyone But England thing a bit pathetic really, I know some talk about it in good humour but a lot use it as an excuse to fuel their bitterness over a battle that took place hundreds of years before they were born... saying that I love you all
