  • Ramon Allones old cigar box

An employee of mine brought this in today , its his dads old cigar box.

I know some of you guys have encyclopedic knowledge of old boxes, he would really like to know how old it is and what it held.

    Cheers

Lee Mitch may know if he picks up on this thread as he has a big collection of 'old stuff'.

Suggest you PM him if he doesn't.

Mitch once told me he seldom picks up his PMs on here or not for some time at least, he suggested contact goes via his shop email.

I'll give you $5 for it?

Lol not for sale bud, the guy is really getting into cigars and wanted some info. He also had a huge chest that was used to carry cigars apparently, owned by his grandad.

            Rather old and cigars...

Great looking box though, the lucky git.

Interesting: a non-dress box from the very brand that is credited for introducing dress (Semi Plain) boxes - in or around early-mid 19th century, according to MRN (although he later states that the brand was registered in 1845 so presumably SPB's came in after that). RA also, apparently, introduced the 898 format, so presumably not everything they made was packaged in SPB's.

I would suggest Simon Chase is the person to contact regarding this. Is there an H&F evening @ No 10 Manc Street coming up - someone could take along some pictures? I'm sure SC would be interested.

                  Nice box!

Just a thought: did his dad modify the box or was that how Ramon Allones made it?

I think it was stained many years ago on the outside. The inside is exactly as it was. The top carving is how it originally was too
