Two reviews in two days - I'm on fire (No pun intended there)!

Was in the mood for a smoke at lunch time today in preperation for the Boisdale Auction this evening and so i bimbled over to the Boisdale for an hour.

Before leaving the office i opened up the humidor on my desk and looked at my meager selection. There were two candidates for smoking - one was the El Rey Del Mundo Choix de l'epoque and another, interesting, little cigar. I chose the latter of the two; a Los Statos De Luxe Selectos. Los Statos De Lux was a brand that was discontinued circa 2005 and this vitola - the Selectos - was discontinued in 2002. The cigar is covered in a cedar sleeve, much like the romeo cedros range with the Los Statos De Lux band on the outside. Until 1980 this vitola was hand rolled but from 1980 it was machine rolled, hand finished. I cannot say when my example is from as i didnt get a look at the date stamp on the box it came from - however i do know that it is pre 1994 as it had a cubatabaco stamp on the box as opposed to the Habanos SA stamp that was in place after 1994. Here is my review:

    Los Statos de Lux Selectos
    Price: Unknown - now discontinued
    Ring gauge: 40
    Length: 5.5"
    Taste: Medium Bodied
    Filler: Cuban
    Binder: Cuban
    Wrapper: Cuban

    Appearance:
Upon removing the cedar wrap the cigar looked slightly oily and was quite dark, though not maduro. The cap was a little bit messy but upon cutting - not not cause any problems.
    Score: 13/15

    Draw / Burn:
The draw on the cigar was perfect. I couldnt say it was an easy draw but it was by no means tight and i would consider it to have been the perfect draw - no labour at all.

After lighting I didnt have to touch it up at all and nor did i only had to relight it once when i let it go out so that i could leave the Boisdale and resume it on my walk to the office.
    Score: 19/20

    Flavour & Complexity:
Wow - what a joy this little stick was. A suprise for sure. This cigar was definately a medium body and smoke from the nose was not at all spicy. Notes of wood and flora all of the way through with a hint of eucalyptus or aniseed about half way through. I was impressed by the change from the start to the end with this cigar - though not much - it was still noticeable.
    Score: 26/30

    Overall:
A pleasant lunch time smoke which i am glad i smoked today. A nice little cigar with over 16 years of age on it. By no means would i go out, or recommend you going out, or the way to try and source these cigars as they are not worth any strenuous effort; however I am glad i had the oppurtunity to try one and I would smoke again if i were to be gifted one again.

When did you learn to write!?!?!
"In Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love, they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock!"

I got a box of these last year from an online retailer. Very good cigar for the price!
