  • Birmingham Cigar Club Cigar Dinner

    Hi All

There is a cigar dinner taking place in Birmingham City Centre on the evening of 14th March. If anyone is interested the cost is ?25 per person for a 3 course meal including port at the end.

These evenings are great fun and there are some real characters in attendance.

If anyone is interested in coming along please drop me a PM.

Looks like that will be fun, Rhiannon. Unfortunately I'm almost 200 miles to the South and East of Brum. I would have considered it if it had been closer. I hope you have a great time all the same. Bryan

If i was not so busy with work I would love to go...I will be in touch closer to the time.

Is there a cut of point in putting your name down to go?

      Are you interested Drew??

I'd be interested if I can persuade the wife to join in (I could tell her it's a shoe and handbag party).
What actually happens at a Cigar Club Dinner?

We all gather at one of the few remaining old-fashioned 'Gentlemen's clubs', i.e. the type of venue where women aren't allowed to dine upstairs at lunchtime, not the modern sort of 'Gentlemen's club' such as Stringfellows!

The food is always very much of the 'school dinners' variety, but the Stilton and Port make up for that, and I am led to believe that the meat is always really nice. (I'm a veggie so we always get veggie surprise, i.e. quiche).

After dinner there will be some speeches and toasts - sometimes the toasting gets into the realms of the ridiculous, particularly once the Port is started and the Chairman of the club, Adrian, is such a character he often has us in stitches.

It's basically an excuse to dress up, drink too much wine and port, and smoke cigars. To an outsider it might look a bit nobby as it's Black Tie, but the people who go are usually salt of the earth, everyone from Care Assistants to Company Directors.

Cohiba - we can add guests right up to the last minute, but having had experience of organising events, the earlier the better, and I would prefer money/cheques in advance. It's usually around ?20 - ?25, as soon as I know the actual cost I'll let you know.
