  • Gran Habano Corojo #5

Started this cigar off by carefully using the Punch that was gifted me by the G-Man making sure it was cut even and in the centre of the skirt. Lighting this up by gently truning the cigar whilst drawing lightly and turning at the endge of the flame of my lighter.

Quite a heavy cigar in flavour with a generous kick of flavours. The #5 started off evidently peppery from the start, I sat gently drawing on this cigar to get the maximum flavours and found the peppery flavour disapearing to be overtaken by a good fruity taste, took me a while to figure out what type of fruit i was tasting and decided this must have been a little like plum and perhaps mixed with sweet apples, the combination was quite overwhelming and this soon subsided for a salty yet gentle chocolat flavour. These flavours remained consistent throughout the remainder of the smoke to the very end.

The burn started off uneven despite my efforts and i put this down to the outer leaf begining to split. (see 2nd photo) Once past the split the outer leaf remained intact for the remainder of the cigar.

The ash was good, although a little darker than i had experienced with the Gran Habano #1 and #3 the ash was silvery white/grey. The ash on the #5 was dark. However; that said the ash formed almost perfect rings with hardly any waver. The ash dropped off after it got to the end of the 2nd third and remianed in one piece on the desk which suprised me as it didnt disintergrate on impact.

Over all there was a slight saltyness to the cigar on top of the flavours and the outerleaf was rich and oily.

Another cigar that has met its maker which although fairly full bodied in my view, was not as strong as i had expected it to be.

Overall i thoroughly enjoyed this cigar and im looking forward to the 2nd one sitting in my humi..

    Nice write up Eggy.
I've have a fiver of these in the past, and couldn't extract half of what you did.
You have quite a palate for the NCs

Very good review! I know what you mean about trying to narrow down exactly the sort of fruitiness it is! I got that smoking the Mag 48 few days back (was it chestnuts or almonds...?!?).
