preface: I like really sweet, smooth cigars. The sweeter the better (think "sungrown" in the non-cuban world ... ashton vsg or pinar del rio sungrown)

The pre-light aroma of this stick was nice enough. Kind of barnyard-ish but with a hint of sweetness. The pre-light draw was primarily of tobacco with maybe a touch of wood. The construction of the stick was good although it felt a little stiff at the foot.

Post-toast and light. The first 1/2 inch of this stick smoked very tightly and didn't produce much smoke at all. The flavor was very spicy and a little peppery ... left my tongue tingling. After the first half an inch the cigar became very woody although it gave off a sweeter fragrance.

The second third was mostly woody but I started to get an oddly bitter taste. In a lot of ways it reminded me of a AF Hemingway (as much as I'm sure this comparison will draw the ire of CC lovers upon me). The wood wasn't sweet and it was actually farily unpleasant.

The last third was still woody but the bitterness and harshness ramped way up and I let the stick burn itself out a little earlier then I would have liked.

The ash was a dark grey and was flaky, although it held on for a good inch at a time.

I really really wanted to like this stick. I'd read so many good reviews that touted how sweet this cigar is that I was sure I was going to love it. But unfortunately I didn't. I'm thinking that based on the character of the ash and the prevailing bitterness that this was a young stick so I'll probably revisit this stick again at a later time.

Nice review there Swinger, though your preface does put Partagas out of your typical range. I love the shorts, and haven't had any harshness in my cab yet, but they are definitely on the peppery side.

You don't care for the party short! Personally I've never had a bad party short......but we all are different! Was just talking with a guy earlier about the best minuto and it was a short for him and between a rascc and a short for me.

I never used to like the psd4 until recently.......now I think its among the finest of robustos. You should try again soon!

try few more before you give up, might had a bad one, the tight problem indicated it might be a lemon.

Did not like the Party Shorts - Blasphemy

I love the Party Shorts! One of my fav daily smokes. I have never heard of them being referred to as sweet though. So, not sure where you saw those reviews!

Anyway, everyone's tastes differ! So, give them another shot later on, you may find they grow on you.

Sorry Guys I'm with Swinger on the Party Short and pretty much agree with everything in his review. The RyJ Petit Princess, RASCS and Dippi5's are my preferred choice in the Peria/Minuto size ..... the Party I find a bit harsh and too peppery and stronger than the PD4 ..... but that's not to say I've given up on them and won't keep trying to love them.

I wonder if, with this stick being tight, firm draws contributed to the reported harshness swinger?

It's good to have one's opinion shared ... even if that makes us both crazy, lol. (given the popularity of the Party Short).
I've got a RASS which I'm looking foward to trying.

cj121 - It started smoking freely and producing decent smoke after the first half inch or so, but I'm sure I'll try another one again eventually.

Anyone going to say if they believe the cabs shorts are better than the dressed box? My first Short was from a cab & it blew my sox off Amazing, many times I wished I had gone back & brought the rest of that cab, as later ones I had were nice but never quite the same.
Anyone else notice the difference between cabs & dressed?
