  • Head up on a great Rum

Whilst being converted over the last year or so to drinking a good rum when smoking a cuban I have been fortunate enough to be invited to try many a fine rum. Whilst you can certainly spend a fortune on the tipple one particular rum has popped up that I thought I would let you guys know of.

While many rums embrace the pervasive idea that rum is a mixer to be poured with cola or blended with coconut water and never taken alone, others are fighting against the collegiate stereotype and attempting to establish the category as one equal in sophistication to whiskey or brandy.  Zaya is one of the latter. Zaya

Now this is not hugely expensive nor cheap. It is a little difficult to track down but I can point you to two or three outlets in London that carry it and I think you can source it online but I have not checked. It is a great rum in my opinion. I understand it used to be related to Ron Zacapa rum but for legal/geographical reasons it was or did split off to become its own entity. I have to admit to being a little underwhelmed by most of the RZ offerings excepts the very high end ones and I slightly object to the price they expect for said products. The Zaya rum I am pointing you at is easily an equal to the RZ but has its own character that I have found a real soft spot for.

    Just a head up guys.

Agree completeley T! I tried a little bit of this once before - it's a wonderful rum.

Available from The Whisky Exchange - though I'm not sure how their price (?54.95) stacks up against other shops. Nice though it was, I'd rather spend ?50 on a nice Scotch - but that's just me.
