  • Grr - Freezer Defrosted Overnight

Nothing really to see here, I'm just venting which is exactly what my freezer did last night!

My wife wok me up this morning as the freezer had defrosted overnight and was making a lot of noise. It seems the door wouldn't keep a seal and was open all night. I guess the motor did what it could but couldn't keep up with the loss of temperature.

Initially we thought we had lost everything but in reality only a bit as the lower down drawers were not so bad.

I've just spent an hour defrosting our "frost free" freezer. The motor seems quiet again and is cooling nicely as well as the door making a seal. Few!

We only got a letter through saying the freezer was 3 years old a few weeks ago and as usual I ditched it ignoring the exte ded warranty. Lets hope it continues to work OK.

Anyway as I say I'm just venting. Thanks for listening.

Nothing funny about that mate! I have nightmares when we have a power out, wondering how long it will be out for. We have 3 freezers and if I lost them it would run into many hundreds of dollars of loss. Then there is the Wineador, dont get me started on how hair brained I got when we had a twelve hour outage in the peak of last summer. I looked like this!
What would I know? I'm just a backwoods roo packin crim from New Holland! LOL. (Thankyou El Cat)

Thanks mate. Looking good at present so keeping fingers crossed.

Wineador could be an issue in the summer heat for you. Hell even in winter you don't want it getting much warmer!

LOL. Actually the winters are reasonably cool here where I reside. on average 4C nights & 16C days. Only lasts a few weeks though as the nights are around 5C and the days 21C already.

Funny its not but if you keep the door closed food will last up to 2 days frozen. You just can't keep opening and closing the freezer or fridge looking for your favorite TV show. LOL

Not in 50 degrees celcius it wont. Thats what it gets to in my shop without the aircon in the middle of the day. I agree that many good TV shows have been put on "Ice" though. (My freezer is still a B&W model BTW) LMAO.

Over the last month or so our 18yr old son has not shut the bloody freezer door properly, he thinks that slamming the door will shut it but mostly it bounces open a tad, and I then find it the next day. Luckily its just ice cream thats been thrown out but if he does it again he can pay for any grub lost Then last week while the wiring was being done in the kitchen a wire came loose and the freezer was off for a day, luckily the top defrosts 1st so ice cream took the brunt I tried to raise the feet of the freezer slightly at the front so the door would close on its own, works a treat on the fridge not staying open now.
