  • The Stogiedog - Bogey or Budgie?

Since your arrival with a cool avatar, Sir, I've been wondering how people pronounce STOGIE.

It's a great word, but I've heard it said in two different ways.

How do you say STOGIE, guys?

    As in budgie, trilogy? (SOFT)

    or

As in bogey (aka snot), (old) fogey? (HARD)

Will we differ across the Pond?

I have always said stogie like the middle of budgie.
Whatever the result, I'm sticking to that!

In all honesty it never occurred to me it might be pronounced anything other than rhyming with bogey or fogey. See now I feel the need to google 'pronunciation stogie'. Because the internet has all the answers.
Amusingly, the audio on Merriam-Webster crapped out after 'sto', leaving me none the wiser...

      Life is too short!!!
I see you stand like greyhounds in the slips,
Straining upon the start. The game's afoot:
Follow your spirit, and upon this charge
Cry 'God for Harry, England, and Saint George!'

      The Dawg.

I've been thinking about this because I posted this clip somewhere on here a while back.

Schwarzenegger is a bogie man if you listen.

              Alex - That is funny.

Is this a Brit / US linguistic difference?

              (I am interested. I am a linguist).
