  • Perdomo Prestigio ESV 1991 Torpedo

    Wrapper: Connecticut Shadegrown
Filler: Triple Fermented Slow Aged Nicarguan
    Size: 6.5 x 52
    Shape: Torpedo

    Appearance :
(I would have liked to have done pics, but SWIMBO?s filled my card up with grandchildren photos and I?m forbidden to touch it!).
First off, this was a very handsom cigar. Beautifully cylindrical and ending in a sharply pronounced point. The wrapper was a clear natural colour, slightly translucent with a pale green sheen within it. The wrapper was oily with a slight pattern of fine veins running throughout. The black and gold band is a work of art and very masculine. And, it also appears to have been purpose designed to fit the cigar shape, because unlike the bands on most Cuban torps which slide about all over the place, this one stayed happily in place till the ash was likely to incinerate it, and I had to remove it!

    Pre-light:
The pre light aroma was slightly citrus smelling. Snipping the end was a delight. My Cuban Crafters has a little hole especially for torp ends, and the cutting left a little ?dunces cap? of tighly rolled tobacco.

    Construction:
I rate the construction of this cigar as being excellent. The draw, channelled through the narrow torp end was giving off huge volumes of smoke. The burn was near-perfect from start to finish and the white-grey ash was perfectly formed and held pretty much to the half way point. The draw was effortless throughout the smoke suggesting the Perdermo Torcedor?s construction work was nigh-on was perfect.

    Flavour:
The flavour wasn?t overly complex. There was a really nice porridgy base taste with some hints of maybe coffee, and a very agreeable ?bite? of citrus. The flavours stayed pretty much smooth and balanced throughout with a slight shift from mild to medium. Possibly it came up short on progression and strength. It was at it?s strongest point medium and stayed medium, but I didn?t mind that because it was a pleasant medium and I do get a bit discouraged when cigars which kick off like Snow White slowly turn into the Alien!

    Overall Rating:
A good cigar for a relaxing smoke. Begins mild to medium and eases you along as it gradually gets slightly more 'ummphy' developing into a nice medium bodied smoke. It had a reasonable amount of flavour complexity which is good for a smoke this size. I recommend, if you get the opportunity, give it a go.
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!

      'Ummphy'?
      Is this a technical term?

      Wos it mean?

        Great review Tip.
Sounds like a smoke I'd enjoy wandering through the park on an afternoon.
