  • Low Energy Lightbulbs Rant ......

    'effin' useless. I've just changed every bulb in the house over to Low Energy. Switched on an' the bleedin' place is as dark as nookey's knocker .... Madness! Someones gonna have an accident. I'm changing 'em all back and going out tomorrow to get as many conventionals as I can lay hands on.

    End of Rant.

              Oi! Arf' You cheeky beggar.

              I find the eye patch adds an air of danger and mystery (chicks 'dig it'), at weekends I swap it for a monocle and fake moustache.

                  i changed all the lights in the house when i moved in apart from the fancy lights that my Mrs likes that wont take them. They do take a while to get full brightness and i've gone for higher wattage eg replace 60w incandescent with 90 w energy saving equivalent, do notice a difference in bills as i got a free smart energy meter and can see it shoot up when said Mrs leaves lights on all over the house.

                    I read somewhere that in the uk what we consider to be an equivalent low energy bulb is not the same as elsewhere. Our equivalents are a lower wattage than the us.
                    Eg in the uk

                    8w =40w
                    11w=60w.

                    perhaps a few us members could post the data off their packaging to compare?

                      at uni were told to use 40 watt energy savers..and get fined if we used 'normal' type ones. so..i just stick 100 watt beasts in there...still energy savers..just a crap load brighter. ahah

                        theyre a load of shite, got low voltage energy saving lights in the living room last year and its made no noticable difference to my bill plus the rooms constantly dim! I cant even change back as they are not conventional bulbs!

                            I got a whole house full and then some of those light buls for free, so waste not want not. I changed them all out. If there is a change in my power bill, its a few bucks a year if that.
                            Im changingg all my light fittings out to downlights with a spot globe in them, so to hell with living in the dark anymore!

                              I use a more powerful daylight-simulation bulb in the winter to try and prevent 'the blues'. As it's low-energy it means I can get a stupidly bright one and it doesn't cost loads to run. It seems to help.
