  • Nestor Miranda ? Special Selection ?Coffee Break? Rosado

    Size: 4 1/2 x 50 Short Robusto
    Wrapper: Nicaragua
    Binder: Nicaragua
    Filler: Nicaragua/Honduras/Dominican Republic
    Smoke time: 50mins

Appearance and Construction: A nicely balanced, well packed stick with a triple cap and dark, chocolate coloured Rosado wrapper which is neatly offset by the simple tidy band. The NM looks a bit of a thug really, slightly oily with creases, veins and the beginnings of some crystal patinae.

Flavour: The cigar starts out with a mild, sugary sweet pepper taste before developing a slight woody flavor that creates nice sensations on the teeth and tongue. A little longer and the initial flavors recede, mellow and the woody flavour takes over. The aroma is quite light, with it notes like cedar and honey. In the second the power picks-up, I would say to medium and certainly with a fairish nicotine kick. The flavour changes to a smooth ?nuttyness? with nuance of pepper toward the band.

Draw and Burn: The draw on the cigar was perfect and very easy throughout the smoke. The burn on the other hand did have issues. Bad from the start the burn continually wavered off-line, the ash though reasonably compact was slightly flakey for an NC, and halfway through the smoke the wrapper split longitudinally, not so badly as to spoil the smoke but enough to make it look very untidy.

Overall: A fine short smoke, but with a tendency (possibly) to heat up and wrapper-split in the second half. That aside, very enjoyable.

Whilst I enjoyed this cigar, I do prefer the Oscuro version. And despite it's CA Top 25 Rating the Coffee Break is no longer easy to come by. (Mike had to plunder his own humi.) The new NM robusto, [the 1989] is supposedly superior and thanks to Mike, I've one to look forward to.
