  • Look after your health lads!

I do enjoy kicking back and enjoying a cigar, but I realised today that I have done bugger all exercise lately and been drinking more.
My cholesterol is at 7.0 and my Dr wants it at 5.5, so I jumped on the road bike tonight and went for a cycle in the rain.

I was shocked at how much fitness I had lost over the last 6 months. I used to bush walk with 10-15kgs in a backpack. I would cycle 50-80kms at a time. Tonight I really struggled on a simple 20km bike ride on flat ground.

I love this hobby of mine, and I do not attribute it to my lacking of fitness Laziness is to blame!! Dont get lazy lads.

I hear you there. I recently started going to the gym and going swimming again and I feel GREAT because of it.

A cigar tastes better after a long bike ride or run. Seriously.

Because it was totally the wrong thing to do.

Fitness is lost in a much shorter time than it takes to gain. Muscle memory though remains pretty much the same and tempts people who have been used to doing things into doing too much too early.

10 x 2km on different days initially before attempting 20km might have been better. then a 10km, then a 20km and by which time your puff will be starting to return to somewhere near as you remember it.

If that seems cruel it's because I've seen too many people injure themselves and then give-up through attempting things before their really ready for it.
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!

Totally agree Leo. Our winter is not even a real excuse not to ride but it's easy to get complacent. I'm there myself.
What would I know? I'm just a backwoods roo packin crim from New Holland! LOL. (Thankyou El Cat)

I used to weigh 5 stone heavier than I do now - started running, and the benefits are huge, both physically and mentally - I'm a much more positive minded person now, and can usually see the silver lining of any cloud.

I've ran 7 marathons this year, and I could never have imagined running more than 100m 10 years ago.

                Stay healthy people!!

agreed!! I always make sure I hit the gym 3 times a week plus squash, boxing and Pilates. I seem to be able to enjoy my vices more, knowing that I've done the boring fitness stuff too!

I just hit 17 and half stone 2 months ago, now with the wifey due to drop our first child at the end of feb I thought enough is enough. Got a treadmill(given by my nan) and started running and dropped to 16.8 however I soon got bored and started to gain again, I've now joined the local gym with a friend and seem to be doing 3 times a week for around two hours....what I would say is cigars taste a hell if a lot better after a good work out....hopefully sprout will have a lean father when born.....

I work out 3 times a week. I am currently doing german volume training. I eat extremely healthy, low fat, decent amount of carbs and FUCK LOADS of protein. I eat around 4000 cals a day and I still have a six pack.
