  • hines vsop cognac, any thoughts?

    evening all,
i called in to an off license outside of belfast (in whiteabbey FYO) and was amazed at the variety of drink of offer, stuff i've read about but never saw in shops!!! there was a bottle of hines vsop cognac, 70cl, ?30!!! worth getting? they also had a 70cl bottle of hennessey XO for ?70 (i think)!!! pol rogers champagne ?30 (i think)........ any good?

    thanks in advance,

    alex

Oh yes ive had hines before, great with a Party SD4 and P2... all these places you visit with spirits, im begining to think you need to see someone to talk about alcohol consumption and harm... ive got an opening at the office at 9.45.. see you then

?30 for Pol Roger is a pretty good price for an excellent champagne IMHO.

To me, Cognac is a very personal choice, so (where possible) I always try to sample a snifter before investing in a bottle.

I like the XO - but I would also suggest the Fontpinot XO Grande Champagne if they stock it.
Cheaper in price, though not necessarily in quality.

Ahh, cigars and Cognac - you've got me started now. . roll on Saturday.

Agreed on both points (especially the latter).

Can't say I know anything about Cognac though (apart from that ideally I need some for my drinks cabinet...)

I also just happened into a local store yesterday and not surprisingly this little bauble caught my eye.

I gather the bottle is crystal and the clasp around the neck is gold. My vague recollection of the price was around ?1,500 but it's a bit of a blur!!!

                    well folks,
after a bit of a mad (making up for not seeing my son in 2 weeks), bad (having to deal with his mother) day....... i had one of those 'f**k it, let's splash out' moments!!!! bottle of hine's 'rare vsop champagne cognac'!!!! holy cow, i'm so glad that i bought it!!!! i'm used to cognac as my 'go to' drink, i always have a bottle of vsop at hand (remy, hennessy, martell)!!! this stuff is, simply put, the nicest i have ever tasted!!!! even nicer that it was ?32, cheaper than my usual brands!!!!

steve (eggop), you are so right!!! i had it with a partagas P2, and they matched up PERFECTLY!!! let me reiterate, F**KING PERFECTLY!!!! absolute indulgence, pure f**king bliss!!! cheers for the advice (put it this way, if you lived here in belfast, you would've been getting an invite round this evening just to prove you were right)!!!!

el cat, i agree that cognac is all about personal taste....... however, i'm so glad i listened to steve and trusted my instinct!!!!
                    partagas+hine cognac=heaven

i wonder how it fairs with bolivar? that's the next episode.......

                    all the best,

                    alex

ps: hey gary, the pol roger's champagne is ?34 a bottle!!! i'm starting my own wee collection of bubbly for xmas, may pick a bottle up this week!!!!
