The first British warship to visit Cuba since 1957...

I'd love to be the CO, I suspect there might be a couple of rather nice diplomatic gifts being handed over.

    He He,
The CO's name is REX COX, wonder what else he breaks?

Sorry , schoolboy humour got the better of me!

Simon - do you have any mates on board , or at least mates of mates- just wondering, like?

Assuming overseas servicemen are allowed to bring back "local produce" it's tragic to think of a shipfull of tars with only B&H and Baccardi between them.

        HMS Manchester - Cuba

We're not all that bad Eugene - don't 'TAR' us with the same brush!!
(Do you like what I did there....?)

I am very jealous of the ship's company of the Manchester. Wish I had been on board for the visit, but alas, I am stuck in HMS Collingwood....having had to pay for my trip to Cuba in 2009 myself!! Still, I made it worth my while - trust me!!

a teacher at my school knew the captain of this(never did get the full story) at the time and arranged a visit for us , it was moored next to hms belfast in london .
very tight to get around and i was alot smaller/shorter then.
dont think i would make a good sailor i felt seasick then and we were moored on the thames.
wouldnt have complained about the free trip to cuba though ,even though i was only on the cheap fags in those days.

It would seem that even the Americans are softening their attitudes towards travel to Cuba. I saw in the news that they are allowing Students to visit now. I saw and spoke to lots of Americans in my hotel who were there on trade conferences. I think cooperation between the countries seems to be growing.

I think I know the WEO (through rugby) - more of an acquaintance though. Mind you, it's a bit late to ask for a package now...

Personally, having now viewed it in action, I wish the FCO would grow a pair more frequently...
