  • The Ashes 2010/2011

Well, that time is very nearly upon us. In a little over 12 hours, The Ashes will be underway again with the first test at the Gabba.

I shall be breaking my normal 'no smoking in the home' rule and lighting something up for the morning session. Will anyone else be following, or indeed enjoying a fine cigar to set the series off in style?

A good chance for England to keep hold of The Ashes after the return visit for a good while, let's hope they don't capitulate like last time in Adelaide...

Australians are not worth wasting a good cigar on.
"In Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love, they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock!"

I shall be smoking to herald their forthcoming doom... (And England's forthcoming victory!)

Just left myself wide open with that comment... If we can't do it now, we'll probably have to wait a bloody long time to do it again.

When it comes to lessons I have learnt from Churchill I never joke. As he famously commented to his doctor, Sir Charles Wilson, "Australians come of bad stock."

I have booked time off from work in order to watch the 1st Test, so I'll be heading off to bed soon, to see if I can get some sleep in before it kicks off tonight!!

Can't smoke in the house right now, and as it's forecast to be minus 2 here tonight I'll probably miss out on an Ashes smoke for this one

England have as good a chance of winning in Oz as they have had in years. The Aussies don't have a bad team, but England's is definitely better. Just a case of whether we perform or not.......

I reckon we'll just edge the series, but it should be a good one

You could buy a quality cigar for every wicket they win by & still not go skint.... LOL.

Well, England have been tipped to win. You all know what that usually means................
No man has the right to fix the boundary of a nation.
No man has the right to say to his country, "Thus far shalt thou go and no further."

That is true, I do have a sense of doom about this. Glad I do not really giving a flying fig about sport.

I am off work until Tuesday, feckin love The Ashes, nothing like it.

I have got 3 sticks planned tonight / tomorrow morning. A Gurkha PA, LFD Double Ligero and a JL2 (if I make it up that long). All with loads of booze.

I will be attempting my usual 'smoke out of the side door with one eye on the TV' routine but the missus is expecting the house to stink in the morning. Got to be careful on that front so all the windows are now open, scented candles out soon.

Well, that wasn't a great start... Still, at least the ERdM Choix de L'epoque is smoking nicely so far.
