  • Laws For Revenue!

Just had one of my political outbursts, which are not very good 'cos I'm not that articulate..& run out of things to quote that are basically unjust in our system, but I,m starting a list of crimes & taxes that I believe are purely in place to gather finance for the Gov. & not anywhere near the top of the scale of rationality.. I'll start,

    Tobacco Tax, disproportionately high.
Speed Limits, out of date legislation.

Both correct. I would add the caveat that tax on non-cigarettes is too high.
"In Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love, they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock!"

Parking tickets and different sets of rules for each borough in London.

Both me and Mrs Monkey are careful how we park and still end up spending hundreds of pounds a year on tickets (not hard at ?60 a pop), just a bloody tax.

I've met all sorts of cannabis users and some steal to feed their habbit. Mainly youngsters who are not in work etc. It's not as bad as other drugs but still has it's dark side!

Most of it is paid for by the government in the form of benefit payments, well that is how it seems where i live.
My plan would see government reduced to no more than 10% of GDP, welfare and benefits payments reduced by 50%, the reintroduction of the Workhouses for those who refuse to work.
              And flogging for drug dealers.

Just to the right of Genhgis Khan.

Are you including tobacconists in that category?

Also, could you add 'Jeremy Kyle' to the list of deviants requiring flogging? (A Brit version of Jerry Springer).

Because, if TV is 'The Opium of the masses', he's Pablo Escobar!

I try not to get involved in debates on social issues/politics on this forum. Much as I love each and every one of y'all, I fear my views are a little too pink-shirt-wearing-Guardian-reading-leftie for most stomachs here
I'm still waiting for the whiskey to whisk me away
And I'm still waiting for the ashtray to lead me astray

Somebody once told Pablo Escobar to stop Medellin in drugs -did he listen?

Speed Cameras. They do zero to reduce the road toll here and are placed in positions to maximize revenue. Never seen one anywhere near the most fatal roads around here, just on nice straight pieces of highway where everyone is over the limit because the limit is to low. Bastards! (Havent had a ticket in years though).
What would I know? I'm just a backwoods roo packin crim from New Holland! LOL. (Thankyou El Cat)

Tobacconists, maybe those selling ready made fags, but certainly not those purveyors of fine Cigars of all persuasions, they are the lifeblood of the reflective man in all of us.

Bambini, i used to be a card carrying Labour/trade unionist (NGA print), but the excesses of the last 13 years convinced me of the error of my ways.

If you work and do your best
you'll get the sack with all the rest

But if you skive and doss about
You'll live to see the job right out

My journeyman had that on the side of the press i was chained to throughout my indenture, never forgotten it. lol. How very true.

That there is what has made many a great country a former great country. Mine included. Thank god I work for myself, no dead weight allowed here.

Go for it, we have many opinions here.

I, for one, respect everyone's right to be wrong
