  • Rocky Patel The Sixty Vintage 1990

Santa brought me one of these, and having never smoked a NC in my life I was curious if anyone had any experience with this particular cigar, and how I might find it in comparison to my normal CC's.

It's certainly a nice looking cigar, and has a rather pleasant nutty type of aroma to it - be interesting if it develops that flavour once lit.

I tried one in my currently failed (but ongoing) search for an NC I would buy a box of... it wasn't for me, it wasn't a bad cigar, I just didn't really find it that interesting however I'd be interested to know what you think.

Oh one of the first NC's I became a fan of was Rocky Patel. The 90 and 92 vintage are well worth visiting.

          Not bad.

I have now tried a few in the RP range and these are not a bad smoke, just don`t expect it to have any of the Cuban taste.

Not a bad smoke. Have a handful that I'm going to age a bit. Would I buy a box? No. Would I grab some singles on sale? Yes

Thanks chaps - a few interesting opinions!

Not too sure when I'll be enjoying this particular cigar, but I'll report back with my findings when I do.

Right! The weather was so good today, so it was time to give this a go.

As I mentioned in my first post this was my first ever NC, and I'm still a novice cigar smoker, but here are my thoughts:

Construction is excellent, it looks very nice indeed, and once cut it gave a nice, easy draw.

The first few puffs were a little disappointing to be honest, a rather bland beginning, but after 10 minutes or so a delicious nutty almondy flavour began to show itself. Burn was a little uneven, and I had to give it a couple of corrections to get it to stay nice and even.

The middle third developed a strong peppery flavour, with the nuttiness wafting right into the background. For me, the pepper was a bit too pronounced and really blocked out any other flavours coming through.

The final third saw the return of the nutty taste and the pepper began to subside, but was still very much there.

Overall an enjoyable 2hrs 10mins, and a fine smoke. Personally I wouldn't put it amongst my favourites, but an enjoyable smoke, and I would certainly give some other Rocky Patels a go ifI had the chance. Would I buy a box - probably not, but then I can't afford to buy a box unless I'm certain its going to be a real top notch smoke!

I've gone through many of these over the years.

However, I think it is safe to say these aren't as good as they used to be. A lot of the RP sticks just don't kick ass like they used to.

I was just wondering if there was much difference if flavour profile between the RP 1990 vintage and the 1992's ? Anyone one tried the decade?

There is a difference between the 1992 and the 1990 - if I remember my personal favourite was the 1992 (In Churchill form!)
