  • Possible Herf down South?

    Hi there chaps,

I remember quite a few members telling me that they lived down in the south of the country when I first joined the forum. Has a herf ever been organised at a cigar friendly establishment? (For example, Hotel du Vin in Winchester). I have not visited that particular Hotel Du Vin as yet, and may well go up one weekend when I am staying down at work. Would any other forum members be interested in coming along? Of course, if anyone knows of alternative venues, then I would be more than open to suggestions! Best wishes all, Nick.

      Herf down South

      That's brilliant Barney,

Would you have any preferred dates, then as people reply, I could maybe ring the venue up and book us a slot in advance. I can make most weekends, as I tend to alternate staying at work and going home.
      Best wishes, Nick.

I'm flexible regarding dates mate, I work shifts so am off odd days / nights.
If your Pompey, it might pay to have a herf round our way, I'm on Hayling Island. Plenty of herfing pubs there, under cover, heaters etc and the beer is cheaper too. There's a few botl around this way, let's see what they say

          Southern Herf

That sort of area would suit me fine - I'm just outside Portsmouth - work in Fareham (Collingwood), so just a quick hop away. Like you say above, hopefully more people will reply over the weekend and we can take it from there.

Have a look at my Cohiba BHK 52 thread as we smoked it at the smoking shack in the Winchester Hotel Du Vin. Very nice but the fire doesn't put out much heat but they had nice blankets for us lol. It's only a couple of quid and about 30 mins from Fareham train station. A couple of us also meet up every couple of weeks in Gosport for a herf but don't know when the next one is planned. Would be good to meet up. What kind of cigars are you smoking/tried?

                Herf

                Hi there Jibjob,

A meet up close to Gosport sometime would be great. I tend to favour the larger vitolas myself, and normally smoke DCs or Churchills - my absolute favourites stick being the Ramon Allones Gigantes. That said, I will try anything, so if there was a particular stick that you had in mind to try at a meet, then that would be fine by me. Any suggestions? Nick.

I'll try and round up the Gosport massive and set a date. Any days not good for you? We either smoke in my conservatory or Jpmoore's smoking shack. Smoke what ever you feel like at the time. We meet up for a good few hours so you can polish off 3-4 small or 1-2 large sticks. I'll PM you when I get home.

I may be in your neck of the woods this Friday afternoon.

I think we are getting a herf together lol. I have some pencilled in plans for this Friday but might be able to change them, not sure yet. For those that haven't been the Hotel Du Vin it is well worth doing, just make sure you wear your long johns and wrap up warm as sitting still outside can get a bit cold. Otherwise we could do something at mine in the conservatory.

Well I may be around from about 3.30pm. My preference is for anywhere warm!
