  • Airport Security...Hmmmn!

I don't travel a great deal anymore but...but packing my cabin bag for this weekend just made me think....
I use a Victorinox laptop case because it's great for a weekend & work...
What I've never ever thought of is to remove is the Swiss army knife that comes with it in it's own little pocket!
Also most times for convenience, I use airport parking (getting homes a bugger otherwise,) so my car keys go on the key hook in the bag...
On the key ring is a punch & a tiny Richards pen knife, which I keep razor sharp.....
Been stopped & patted down on several occasions but have never been stopped for these...
I have been told by friends that my PP photo makes me look like a villain....so how come these have never been a problem....two knives & a mini kubatan in an airplane cabin???

Bloody good question... I work in aviation and used to travel one heck of a lot and one day found a pen knife buried in the bottom of my laptop bag that I didn't know was there. Seemingly all of the various airport security screenings that it went through didn't spot it either.

    I'd just keep quiet...

there are probably hundreds of people with such item plus multitools etc
i think there on the look out for 9" bowie and glocks etc
but if pulled out i bet it would raise a few eyebrows.
plus it just shows what you can get away with if you dont even know

Now you know I'd certainly remove it! Not sure I'd want to be carrying an offensive weapon (legal definition, not mine...) onto a plane either.

          Security.

Coming through security at Heathrow T1 two weeks ago there was an American youngster who had a 6" flick knife in his laptop bag.

And if you think that is bad: at the beginning of last year while travelling out of a foreign airport in the Middle East there was a harmless looking old guy behind me at security who attempted to take a small silver pistol in his hand luggage.

Put the fear of god in me.

When I was working in Ireland, I used to sometimes buy a pizza and take it back to the hotel room. I purloined a knife and fork from the office canteen to help me eat it and put the said items in my shoulder bag and completely forgot about them. Only when I came home and unpacked my bag did I find them. I had been through two airports with a knife and fork in my bag and nobody noticed!

From an opposite view, I had a chain taken off my wallet and Glynco in Brunswick, Georgia! The chain had been ok in Dublin, Newark, Atlanta, Jax but not in Glynco. Methinks the smaller airports need to justify their security personnel!

              Tru Story!

Umm. Shortly after 9/11, don TJ found himself in Heathrow awaiting a flight to North America - a time when you could still enjoy a smoke in the airport. He decided to purchase and enjoy a Cohibo Esplendido that turned out to be plugged. So reaching into his carry-on bag, he found his favorite titanium darts and used one to unplug the stubborn puro.

But just as he began to settle back and relax with this most excellent stick, he realized something.... he had 3 very sharp and expensive darts in a bag he was about to take on a plane.

Surprisingly, the bag passed security and went on to win many more tournaments.

Tell it again, BB....I LOVE that story!

I had to laugh thinking about darts made of titanium, a 30 gram dart would be the size of a Lusitania, trying to get 3 into the treble 20 would be interesting.

What the Hell is going on around these parts?

First I'm corrected by senor JOAO LA PEZ for claiming don TJ's darts were titanium, now I'm getting grilled by senor PeeNutz over the puro selection!

Can't a poor, but honest Mexicant get a break around here?

Hey BB! We we're a bit early at the airport.
