hey all,
saw this in sainsbury's yesterday, ?3.50 a bag!!! following on from big_T's glowing report a while ago, i bought it (the ground version, not the beans)!!! tried it in my mocka pot this morning, holy cow!!!! probably the nicest coffee i've had in a long time!!! it says it's strength is 4....... i disagree, it's more like a 5!!!

No, no, thanks to you. I have an unusual feeling going through me at the moment. Somebody actually GLAD and GRATEFUL about something I said. I am not used to this warm fuzzy feeling, I am not sure I like it, LOL.

Glad you liked the coffee and that is was not just my palate. I can't get a good tasting espresso from the beans but I love it as filter coffee which I used to rarely drink. Monkey66 says filter/drip coffee is now regarded as the purists coffee, so that must say good things for this coffee.

I will try this in a stove top thing later today (like a Bialleti, is that what you mean by a mocha pot?) maybe as I cannot remember how well I got on with it in that.

If you will allow me, might I strongly suggest you save some pennies and buy a burr based grinder. Making coffee from freshly ground beans really is a revelation but make sure it is a good grinder. If you buy a cheap one you will end up with one that uses spinning blades that smash and heat the beans, spoiling them. If you buy a cheap grinder it is like buying a small humidor, you will want to replace it far too quickly.

I sourced this coffee after reading about it here. Its now my regular cup of Jo and costs half the price of my former staple coffee. Nothing else from the supermarkets comes close imo.

Have been using a stove top as my main device and turns out perfect everytime.

Ground, I'm fairly new to all this coffee malarky.

Ive only been persuing it half heartedly for the past couple of years. Once I find something I like, I tend to stick with it. I tried a few different supermarket brands at the start, none of which I would purchase again and hence my apprension to venture deeper. I used to have a whitards store nearby, I scored some good coffee from them, but when I attempted a repeat visit it had shut down.

Beans seem like a future adventure.

just like kam, i'm relatively new to this coffee malarky!!! i use a ?5 stove pot aquired from TK maxx (again, with your recommendation....... looks like it's a good day for you, lol)!!! i was used to taylor's hot lava java & after dark ground coffee (usually 2 bags for ?4 in tesco)!!! i've searched high and low for the cafe direct machu picchu you recommended, it is without a doubt the best of the bunch and now my 'go to' coffee!!! cheers trev!!!

it's a pity about your local whitard's, kam!!! my local shop (well, it was 12 miles away in antrim town) closed down a while ago!!! however, there's a gaggia shop next door that does some great coffee as well as some great machines!!!

one other thing trev, i'm keen to try grinding beans, perhaps you could suggest a suitable grinder?

it's been a while from i've been out there, seems it's under new management (no longer gaggia, now caffe shop direct ltd)!!! however, from what i know, nothing's changed except the sign, all the stock is the same!!!

County Antrim, damn, that is a bit of a drive. An outlet shop for Gaggia, I wonder how much stuff is there, you might get a bargain of a grinder.

from what i can remember, the stuff is quite cheap at that shop!!! it is, after all, in a retail park where you can expect up to 70% off in most shops!!! i need to go out that way for some stuff, so i'll get a better idea of prices/ stock and report back!!!

The Gaggia grinder is interesting but they don't state a price and it is probably nothing special. Value for money I would suggest this:

Is Whitards still in business?

I tried stuff from the Taylors range, Didnt like it one bit. Especially the Lava Java. I still have the majority of a bag in a cupboard. I keep it for caffine hit purposes only.
