  • Picked up 6 Rums today...

Nice day out, just happened into a booze warehouse where I added to my rum shelf,
just trying the Plantation Panama 1997 from Cognac Ferrand. This is the fourth one of the plantation series I've tried & the sweetest so far, nice molasses hanging in on a distinct peppery finish, a very subtle hint of the bourbon barrel....
    I like it..

Becoming a BIG fan of Plantation range. You say you picked up six?

What are the others in the range you have tried and are comparing with?
"In Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love, they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock!"

      Compared to:
      20 year anniversary,
      Guyana 1990,
      & Barbados 1995.

      Picked up a Trinidad 1993 & 2000, 2 x Grande Reserve & a Nicaragua 1998 which I'll be trying in the near future

Oh wait..the penny just dropped, you have had a bootle of this then?

Now I have had a glass of it at the HdV Brighton but before I start to waffle, what did you honestly think of it?

Yep..that's the kiddie, I fell in love with Barbados rum many years ago but am now developing a wider spectrum.
I don't actually think the 20 yr anni is worth the price tag but it is a pleasant experience although a little too spicy & not sweet enough for my taste.
Mount Gay Extra Old is better by far IMO, in fact the Barbados 1995 is better without the expense.
In general though I've found the Plantation range so far to be well worth drinking...I'm halfway home on the Panama as I type...........

Boy oh Boy overseas to Barbados in those days..I was "the Man"..
                  Downhill ever since!

Well I loved it totally. In London the regular Plantation range is 34-36 quid but the 20th is 40, not a huge leap in price but still a lot for a bottle. I think I loved the spice to it. The sweet and spice was a great twist on the rum theme and I fell in love. I am in London for work Tuesday and if I can I will try to finally pick up a bottle.
