  • Marrakesh/Marrakech

Off to Marrakesh in June, anyone know what sort of prices I should expect, and availability.

    I know there's a casa, quite a good article here: http://www.sanssoucicollection.com/p...ar-journal.pdf

I went to Marrakesh for two nights. as usual I saw a hotel and a venue... everything else I saw from the back seat of a car or t the airport. I can't remember the airport, but I didn't bring any cigars back with me which suggests there was nothing interesting/bargain like to be had. However that article look interesting.

The LCDH in Mamounia hadn't opened when I was last there, so I took my own.
The airport carries a fair stock though (can't remember prices, sorry).

Also, plenty of excellent opportunties to smoke whilst there (criminal not to!).

There's some great bars in and around Djemaa el-fna with terraces over-looking the square.
Get there an hour before dusk, get a table, some mint tea... fire one up... and enjoy one of the most evocative spectacles in the modern world.
(The food's great too - eat at the busier stalls... generally fresher)

The majority of Riads have roof-top terraces (and shaded courtyards) which are ideal for an afternoon/evening session.

P.S. The local 'Syrah' is hugely under-rated.
(You see... there are some advantages to once being colonised by the French!)

Nice one El Cat. All sounding good. Still can't work out the address of the Casa in Marakesh though...their site contact us page has the Casablanca address. Doh.

That's a coincidence, my parents have also just booked a holiday to Marrakech in June. Will need to keep an eye on this thread then hand them my shopping list

I believe the Marrakech Casa del Habano (as opposed to the Casablanca Casa del Habano) is in the Hotel La Mamounia as El Cat suggested.

Am staying 100 yards from it, in the Sofitel, so will report back....

              Back from Marrakech...

Only cigars I could find were in the Casa in Hotel La Mamounia as previously stated.

I bought a pack of 3 HdM Petit Robustos first, they smoked quite light, weren't as good as the Cab of 25 I've had recently.

Went back to buy some Sir Winstons at about 14 DHM (about ?12) each, but looking at them, I was surprised at a few things:

              a) They were a bit rough around the edges
              b) There was distinctly different gauges between cigars in the same box
              c) There were various shades of colours in the same box

I bought just a single HdM Double Corona in the end and it smoked very well.

I'm not saying they're fake, they were just in bad condition and looks like a lot of box swapping as gone on. Considering the condition of the cigars and the odd colouring/size issue, I stuck to the ones I'd bought with me.

Box swapping is common in many countries. They keep the same physical boxes on display and top up so date codes are rarely what is inside. Far less of a concern than we might have.

Hullo all, been reading for a while but decided to post due to necessity!

Does anyone have any updates on Marrakech airport? Heading over there in June and staying in a smart place slightly out of town, so I guess airport would be ideal if anyone has prices?

                    Cheers!
