  • What are the UKCF musos fiddling with currently?...

Work in progress with my band, PENTHOUSE.
Credits etc on the Soundcloud link.
Practice recording through an Edirol mp3 recorder.
Studio time booked in a few weeks.

This keeps me happy and sane.
Everyone smokes in the band. They love my cigars.
    Pig in shit, really.

    PENTHOUSE: It's Amazing

    It lasts eleven minutes...

The penthouse stuff I've heard is great, really nice grooves. It's great to be doing stuff you love. Playing music you don't like or with musicians you don't gel with is worse than having a job you don't like because it ruins your passion rather than just your career. If I didn't have little self indulgent projects I think I'd go mental.

I've been recording backing vocals today... tracking is one of the things I really love about this job.

      hey bryan,
i have to agree with drew, the penthouse stuff i've checked out sounds great!!!

i've a session on this evening, a bit of a bitches brew type vibe!!! don't know the drummer or bass player that well, so should be interesting!!!! not so much writing songs, trying to put a set together for a couple of gigs i've been offered (approx 40 mins)!!! looking forward to bending heads tonight with some obscene modular synth stuff and hammond organ........ all through the usual fx (moogerfooger ring mod, space echo & alesis airFX-the first i'll have used it in ages)!!!

      all the best,

      alex

        Why thank you, gents.

Drew - You are a whipper with the old backing vocal treatment. I know this!

Alex - I've been impressed with the equipment-oriented posts you've put on here before. You have and do some stuff, Sir! I confess to not being much of a technician and staying close to piano / organ / easy synth stuff. I'm a piano player rather than a programmer, but I am making steady progress with Logic Pro here in my mac-felched back bedroom (ahem) studio. I lose patience. Partly because my day job knackers me.

I haven't been in an originals band for 20 years and our band is coming along very nicely. I don't know where it will go. I'd love to play in some small festivals. The pub circuit is an absolute no-no, and I have sold my soul to that "scene" for too little satisfaction for too many years. It depresses you eventually to play to people who are there by accident, and to shove beer down their throats.

I am excited by the new band. We've been practising every Sunday afternoon with very few exceptions since last June. We haven't played live yet, so will start off with an open mic night. I have to say I am driven by the energy within the band- especially by the guy who formed it - and... We all share a similar sense of humour. We all have a similar world view. We all spend an inordinate amount of time on music.... And we have very varied musical idols and influences. I'm learning about new bands through these guys.

Plus to be with muso mates who WANT you to light a Havana is a godsend.

Been learning some flamenco puro from the player Sabicas, this one's an Alegrias. Long long way to go before any of them are concert ready, but here ya go - a shoddy one-take in the sun!

I'm determined to learn "Bad Love" by Clapton after hearing it on Planet Rock for the first time in years so it's time to dig out the old Tele over the bank holiday, re-string and get cracking.

Been picking up the acoustic at least once a week to play to mini-monkey. He seems to like it and was banging along this morning. Lots of Beatles and funky blues, this morning was playing Free Falling with new lyrics "he's a good buy, loves his mother, loves milkey and petit filou too" ....welcome to my world
