Another famous question. You go out, buy a HUGE humidor that you will never be able to fill up. This way you will never run out of space, but is there any drawbacks?
Yes, if your humidor is designed to hold a large quantity of cigars (e.g. 200) and you only have a few cigars in it (e.g. 40) then your cigars will absorb all of the extra moisture that was meant to be absorbed by the other cigars. This can cause them to become over-humidified leading to some pretty major issues.
If you want to fix this problem, and buying a smaller humidor is not possible, then you should place some cedar strips in the humidor to soak up any excess moisture. These will take careful regulation, as too much cedar will under-humidify the humidor, yet too little cedar will over-humidify it. Once the balance is correct, then having a large humidor should not be an issue any longer.
Remember: if you then buy more cigars to put in the humidor, some of the cedar will need to be removed. Likewise, if you remove some cigars leaving even fewer in the humidor, then more cedar must be added.
