This is my preferred method too

They do this so that the internal temperature doesn't heat too quickly and create an initial bad taste...

It was the flambe / flame purging I'd read about for lighting. IIRC the flame burning on the end was supposed to be the chemicals which have built up during the initial torching / lighting. Not sure how true that is tho.

I purge infrequently and find it helps sometimes. Though I have a vague memory of ButterBallz commenting that he purges frequently as in regularly throughout a whole smoke. Though I could be wrong and may have dreamed it.

After lighting I always blow through the cigar a couple of times before I start to draw on it. I've done it for several years ever since I mentioned to someone that that the cigar I was smoking tasted a bit of chemicals or lighter fuel and he suggested that after lighting I blow through the cigar once or twice to get rid of any fuel vapour. It cured the problem for me and I've done it ever since.

It is possible with one of them. There was no ammonia smell and it was nicely constructed.
