started a topic Padron 40th Anniversary

    Padron 40th Anniversary

A box-pressed torpedo made from all Nicaraguan tobacco aged for 5 years. $30 a cigar and Cigar Aficionado's 2006 cigar of the year. Very rare, though it is in limited quantities right now so I picked up one. Unbelievable smoke - let me explain:

APPEARANCE: This dark cigar has a beautiful texture and smells magnificent before even being lit. Box pressed and feels dense with such a tight packing of tobacco it weighs heavy in the hand. 5 out of 5

AROMA: One of the most pleasant aromas of any cigar the smoke smells almost as earthy and creamy as it tastes. 5 out of 5

BURN: As with all of Padron's box pressed cigars the burn was absolutely perfect from start to finish. Just a straight edge of ash that burned at an even pace and there was never a need to puff just to keep it lit, nor was there ever a thought in my mind that it would go out as spent hours letting it rest in my hand with intermittent hits to accompany my scotch. Even the wind coming off the beach did not create any interference with the burn. It should also be noted that two passersby actually commented on what a beautiful burn I was getting from the cigar in my hand. It just doesn't get any better. 20 out of 20

TASTE: Cocoa and earth were the dominant tastes here. The smoke was creamy in texture and reminded me at times of the taste of the Cohiba Esplendido. Full of flavor. I would pay another $30 just to smoke half of one of these cigars they are that good. 70 out of 70

TOTAL SCORE: 100 Hands down, the best cigar I've ever had.

Working...
