Dippy's supposedly better quality tobbaco on the basis it's a smaller prduction than the Monty's, I enjoyed the aged No1's but the No2's I have always mild, just not as mild as the Upmann No2.

Nice review Tipp, not a fan of Dips myself. I think we all end up with a flavour profile we like & go outside that for different experiences, bit like most cigarette smokers stick to one brand.
You say the Boli & the Partagas "put me on my arse", my initial reaction to both those brands was the same, strong flavours & quite some power, ideal for ageing usually...
I tend to stay with 'what I know' mostly medium profiles for daily smokes & lay the powerhouses down.
For your next mission, should you accept it! Select 1 brand & review them all (anything but Cohiba, they're done to death).

It can be a good smoke but not anything that rocks your boat..
Great review mate...Where do you go from here??
Jury has to remain OUT I think.
The age disparity would make any proper judgement impossible.
I think I was just unlucky, and got three under-performers back-to-back.
The Diplomaticos I won't bother with again.
Puff Scotty is taking control of the Monte2 debate and is sending down a stick at what he considers a good smoking age. Time permitting I'll do a Review re-visit next week.
I can not give up on the Partagas. The general Forum consensus is that it is a great smoke although occasionally a duff one will get passed QC, based on that I'll get another to try.
The H.Upmann, which I really liked the taste profile of, will also get another visit.
In each and every instance I was amazed at how mild the cigars were. This was totally against expectation and everything I've seen written (Especially for the SP2). I know it isn't me becoming more tolerant to nicotine, I felt it in the Partagas Conni3 I reviewed last week .... and the Boli Petit I smoked last night .... put me on my arse.
Thanks for reading the Reviews Guys and for all your input. Sorry they might not have been what you expected, but I can only say it as it was.
Ta!

No2's Taste-off ? Round 4.
Diplomaticos ? Diplomaticos No. 2
Size: 156mm x 52 ? Piramide
Smoke time: 1hour 20mins
Cigar box date: OEB MAR 07. Source:- http://www.jjfox.co.uk
Appearance: Oily, rustic Colorado (almost Maduro looking) wrapper with prominent veins. The Diplomaticos band, although my least favourite of all the cuban brand designs, does look as it if actually suits the Piramide shape.
Construction: Solid throughout with just the right amount of ?pinch? at the band point. The pre-light aroma was a delightful aperitif of rich, earthy tobacco. The pre-draw was fine. The smoking-draw was excellent and remained that way throughout the smoke. The burn was true right untill around the band point where I had to make a small adjustment . The ash was hesitantly compact and light-mid grey. Three tap offs. (See pics). One re-touch.
Flavour: Smoothly progressive. The initial flavour was a pleasant mix of leather and soft peppers and the expected Cuban lemony twang of sweetness. (Smoke: Lighter in volumn and without some of the same creaminess in texture as the three other No2's). A third in and the peppers had all but disappeared leaving the leather notes to become much fuller and more bitter but still pleasantly offset by the underlying lemon sweetness. Half way, and with the sweet notes still present, the leathers taste became much earthier ? kidding me into believing the smoke was a lot stronger than it actually was ? and picked up a bit of harshness. By the final third all the harshness had reseeded, but with it, the earthiness had also softened becoming lighter and all a bit ?so what?. Beyond the band the flavour was becoming a bit too tar blurred, and that?s where I left it.
Overall: Not bad, but IMHO best suited as a Herfing cigar as I think it lacks the variety of flavours to really hold the interest of a lone Aficionado over the smoking time. For a supposedly medium to strong smoke I also found it a bit on the mild side, the draw however was very good.Tags: None
