No not being sarcastic .... Some places in the region are 'no go' and in others tourists are confined to resort or have to go out in guarded groups. Being sold a box of Fauxhiba is one thing, having your watch and rings removed with a machete is another.

Cuba is one of the few safe places in the region for tourists to be able to walk about in without fear of robbery, kidnapping or being caught in a drugs cartel shootout.

Was there for two weeks on my own, not once did I feel threatened!

We mean almost everywhere else .... apart from Cuba. Cuba has the opportunity to become a tourist jewel, but the bad elements need to be kept out.

Definitely other parts of the Caribbean, MLW didn't feel safe outside the resort in the DR, security guards with pump action shotguns didn't help with that.

I've always wanted to go to Cuba, even before I got into cigars. I love how it has still kept its charm with there not being any commercialisation. I've been to a few islands in SE Asia where there is barely any ATMs never mind McDonalds n such.
I was hoping to go over in the next couple of years, fingers crossed it takes time for it to be completely ruined.

I wonder how this will pan out. I've wanted to go to Cuba for a while now, even before I started smoking cigars. I love the way it has kept its heritage away from the chains. I've been to a couple of islands in SE Asia where there is no ATMs never mind McDonalds and they are magical.
I read Simons blog from his trip in 2011 and it just looks amazing.

Fingers crossed it takes a while for the yanks to completely ruin it.

I really don't think the Yanks would want to ruin it or have it ruined by over-development. It's character is part of the appeal.

Initially maybe but if when it opens up to the general public it will be just like any other place spoiled by hordes of noisy Americans on holiday
