I've had the Monte and the HDM, both were uninspiring. I'm intrigued by your purchasing criteria, you seem to have the size of the cigar placed above the quality/flavour of the cigar My three favourite big sticks are the Sir Winston, the Don Alejandro and the RA Gigantes, they are very much big enough for me and I'd have them anytime over your four choices Each to their own though, best of luck on your hunt for a big one!!

i've quite a variety of big cigars in one of my tupperdores (churchills, DC's, lanceros, salamones, double robustos), just wanted to see if i could go a wee bit further!!! lol!!! reckon i'm going for the cuabas though, based on my love for the salamones!!! as for the choosing criteria, it's for for the novelty factor and experience (plus i've been offered them at a sensible price i can justify paying)!!!

i have to agree, the sir winston is a hell of a smoke (as i said, i've 9 left out of 10 i bought from 2 fellow forum members), reckon i've convinced myself to get a box in at the end of the summer!!! i've a few bolivar gigantes i can't wait to try, and a couple of VR DA's...... all i need is the weather to enjoy smoking them!!!

I've got some Monte A's with a bit of age on them - will to sell a couple if it helps to hit the spot you are after?
I've only had one out of the 6 I originally picked up and I think they are definitely an occasional smoke given the time it takes to get through them. One for a camping trip me thinks.

The monte A and the diademas are both excellent smokes. The Sancho is pretty so-so and I thought Hoyo was a bit flat....

The Monte A's that I've had have all been from the last 3 or 4 years. Loads of flavour...almost like a massive PE (IMO)

Have had a few montecristo 'A''s in my time and on the whole have enjoyed them. With time not an issue and plenty of red wine I am sure you will enjoy them.

hey deano..... i'm afraid no, they're not big enough!!! i'm talking of BIG, almost comedy sized proportions (the cuaba diademas is 56RG x 9.5") lol!!! i have 9 sir winston's left from a couple of deals with fellow forum members (smoked 1 on xmas day, out in the snow with veuve clicqot champers!!! a heavenly combo)!!! such an amazing cigar, i couldn't justify smoking it regularly, so i'm keeping the remainder as special occasion smokes !!! like yourself, i too hope to scrape together a few shackles to buy a box soon..... hopefully at the end of august!!!

Smoked most 'A' sized cigars and have to agree with the general consensus...

You definitely need 2 to 3 hours to smoke, and 'yes' they do tend to be one dimensional...

That's not to say they aren't enjoyable...

There just isn't the flavour/profile progression you get with other Vitolas...

My order would be:

Cuaba Diademas
Montecristo 'A'
Sancho Panza Sanchos
HdM Particulares

I've never been brave enough to try a really big Cuban stick Alex, I've always been a bit put of by the time needed to get through one. 2 plus hours is most likely a bit past my patience/attention threshhold and I'd end up wasteing a fair bit of the cigar.

I have smoked a Flor de Oliva 1066 which was a big beast, but I smoked it in manageable bites over 6 or so hours, not a memorable experience tastewise, but I was determined to finish the bugger.

I find the really long sticks don't provide much dimension and for me the few I have tried are ultimately disappointing.

I smoked the Particulares last year and found it a great big boring, single dimensional cigar that did nothing.

I do think Lanceros can be magical but the two that excite me (Trinidad and Cohiba) are not much cop young.

If I had to pick any of those you listed I would go for the Monte A, you will probably be able to find one with a couple of years on it.

hey all,
i'm on the edge of buying some larger sized cuban cigars...... the only thing that's stopped me taking the plunge is the shitty weather!!! i'd like some opinions from you guys who've tried the following:
*montecristo 'A'
*cuaba diademas
*HDM particulares (the regular line, not the EL)
*sancho panza 'sanchos'

which of these lot are best value for money? i'm not a huge fan of the montecristo brand...... although i do enjoy the no.2, no.3, especials 1 & 2, petite edmundo every once in a while!!! i am partial to the cuaba brand, the salamones and traditionales (although they can be 1 dimensional)!!! HDM is not a brand i gravitate to that often, except for the epi especial, and i've never tried any sancho panza's!!!

i'm not looking for, or expecting, an earth shattering experience!!! it's more to do with the novelty of trying such a 'big' cigar!!!

any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

ps: there's no option here to buy aged sticks!!! i reckon they're probably be 1-2 years old........
