I really love the idea of these being aged for a few years within oak barrels, I bet this provides a pretty unique little twist on flavour! I think the shop down the road here stocks them, I may try and pick a couple up.

That doesn't surprise me at all; to all intents and purposes JJF are the importers.Originally posted by Gordonbcb View PostJust as an aside, I noticed these are being stocked in the cigar shop within Harrods (by JJ Fox, I think). There's currently an article on the Hunters & Frankau website.

I've had the Emerald and a friend has had the Platinum, they are good NC smokes. The emerald got quite strong by the end but overall a good smoke. I also love the shape of them, just like a cartoon smoke.

Can't go wrong with A. Fuente!

OK I followed up on this one and Chris from the Importers of La Aurora came in to see me at the Prince yesterday. We had a good discussion about their whole range which includes Feunte, Oliva, Nub and others and I decided to buy a few boxes in to sell at the pub. We had a smoke in the beer garden and I sampled the Ruby Perferidos No 2, with the maduro wrapper.
It was a good smoke. Nice oily wrapper, easy to light, even burn, good draw and some good full bodied flavours. All that said, its not a long enough smoke for me. Just a personal thing. Although the ring guage is 54 and the length 5 inches, its tapered both ends shape obviously shortens the experience.
Its well worth a try and I would recommend everyone gives it a go.

I'm surprised these have been so universally praised in this thread. I'm not normally an NC basher, but I had one of each of the Gold and Platinum and thought they were a bit meh!
And the Platinum felt very under packed (don't know if that's the correct terminology). It was very fast burning and way too easy on the draw.
Maybe I just happened upon a bad batch.

Plus...Originally posted by TJCoro View PostIf you want a cigar with a prestigious history and unique taste, the La Aurora Preferido line is an excellent selection. It is the culmination of over 100 years in the cigar and tobacco industry.
Due to the unique design of their tubos... they are easy to smuggle through customs! . . .

What's it all about, Alfie?
Below is a cut & paste that identifies the wrappers with the tube colors.
This cigar is available in a variety of wrappers. The Platinum Cameroon, Red Maduro, and Gold Corojo are all extra aged in oak barrels for several years to give them a very unique and settled flavor. The Sapphire line features a Connecticut wrapper that is aged a full 5 years in a rum barrel. These wrappers are combined with a unique Dominican filler for an experience unlike any other. If you want a cigar with a prestigious history and unique taste, the La Aurora Preferido line is an excellent selection. It is the culmination of over 100 years in the cigar and tobacco industry.

Indeed, possibly the best NC I've had outside of the Kristoff brand. Robert's spot on when he says that the cigar itself is the real star of the show - so much flavour. I think that moreish is the best way to describe the flavours. I need to get my hands on some more now that we've been discussing them...
P.S. I forget the exact details, but I believe that all of the Preferidos range are rolled by just three rollers, leading to excellent consistency.

Interesting, I would have avoided these under the assumption that the fancy tube was there to push an otherwise average cigar. I'm keen to try these out now as I'm going through a phase of NC exploration.
(That's TJ's cue to call me as ass for making assumptions
)
