A system pipe has a "gravity trap" which stops moisture from entering the stem and affecting the smoke.

What's the difference between a 'normal' pipe and a 'system' pipe? That just the model name or does it smoke differently?

The band is nickel the hallmarks are trademarks. Peterson systems are the best smokers IMO.

I've found that out since I bought it. If only I knew it at the time I cod have knocked out down a bit more.

I went to a flea market/antiques fair in Torquay today and picked up this Peterston system 317 rusticated pipe. Looks in reasonably good condition. It has some marks on the silver band that I think make it silver but I could be wrong.
It cost ?15 so not bad.
