Ceramic can have pretty high heat conductivity too so that heat could go directly to the hand. I would be interested to see how they smoke though.

The issue peejay is a metal bowl will get so hot you woulden't be able to hold it.

Seen these on eBay too, they would look good in a display case. I don't know the issue with metal bowls apart from the heat that would pass through them, maybe.

Don't smoke one either or know much about them, but that's a nice looking piece for a good price!
