  • Cornell & Diehl Sunday Picnic

Next in my samples, and well let's get to it. The note is sweet and sour with just a touch of spice on the noise with an almost plum fruitiness which makes me believe the blend has a tad more perique in it.

Indeed when looking up the blends components there is no Latakia but rather some Izmir Turkish which I obviously didn't read when buying the sample bags, this blend is Virginia Perique with Izmir Turkish.

Like many Cornell and Diehl offerings its practically a broken flake, very bright witch a few darker brown spots but no real dark dark spots. Its pack easy as one would expect.

It lights well, taking only three to four relights, onto the flavours the initial smoke is grassy Virginia and followed very quickly by pepper and then by a spicy sour note all complimenting each other the whole thing rounded by Virginia sweetness.

On the retro as always is where the magic happens, it's spicy peppery and boom very very plummy of course this being a hallmark of Perique, and indeed the plum on this is glorious keeping in mind there is nothing on this in terms of flavouring its incredible the flavour on this.

This Grassy sweet sour Plum Fruit with pepper and spice just gets stronger as the bowl progresses it never gets harsh, despite its beautiful flavours its only just into medium territory the nic hit at the mid medium mark.

I can see why its named Sunday Picnic smoking this on a Sunday afternoon just as the temp dropped to below 24 for the first time in days.

(Full disclosure I'm one of those who find any temp above 24 degrees to be unbearable especially with British heat being what it is.)

This was delightful relaxing and echoes an aro, it's the most aromatic non aromatic I've had the pleasure of smoking and that's saying something.

So while not an English due to its lake of latakia strictly speaking its certainly in that vein, and indeed if one wants an English without the smokey Latakia, then this fits the bill in spades.

Did I prefer this more than Bayou Morning......? Yes I think I did however score wise its about the same a solid 4/5 worth trying if you have tried Vapers that just don't have enough this with its Izmir gives such an incredible extra dimension I'm genuinely really surprised by this.
